JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Department of Animal Science at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for an Extension Associate in Dairy Science .
The successful candidate will develop a robust extension program focused on dairy enterprise management. As a member of the Penn State Dairy Extension Team, this position will develop and implement programming that integrates herd production and financial management. Activities will include working with producers to evaluate production data; utilize dairy business management tools; analyze financial health of their operation; interpret market conditions; and evaluate whole farm profitability. The successful candidate will also teach these principles and skills to undergraduate students. They will provide leadership of the undergraduate course, ANSC 346 - Livestock Enterprise Analysis, and give lectures on data evaluation and financial management in other Dairy Science courses. The candidate will work collaboratively with other dairy faculty in the Department to support teaching, applied research, extension, and outreach efforts.
Education and Experience:
This position will be filled as a level 3 and typically requires a Master's degree plus 3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master's or PhD is preferred in Animal Science, Agricultural Economics, or related discipline with a strong background in Dairy Science that includes expertise in data analytics and precision dairy technologies. The successful candidate must have a good understanding of financial management, data evaluation, and dairy farm record systems. Evidence of effective teaching skills, in both non-formal and formal settings, is essential. Communication, creative leadership, congeniality, and the ability to work cooperatively and engage professionally with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students, dairy producers and industry leaders is required.
