Job Summary:
The Facilities Technician is responsible for event setup, event support and event teardown. They will perform routine building maintenance tasks, general cleaning and other tasks as assigned. This is a full-time, nonexempt hourly position, reporting to the Facilities Supervisor.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
- 2+ years related experience within public facilities desired.
- Knowledge of maintenance and minor repair as it relates to public buildings.
- Previous experience with large events (e.g., arenas) highly desired.
- Valid driver license required and good driving record.
- Excellent customer service skills.
Essential Functions:
- Follow written and/or verbal instructions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and the general public.
- Ability to work along with and/or in groups.
- Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays and evenings.
- To handle difficult customer situations using tact, patience and good judgment.
- To respond to customer complaints and requests in a timely and effective manner.
- Operate small equipment such as power tools, shop equipment, lifts, etc., as well as larger equipment including fork lift, loader, skid steer, etc.
- Attend safety sessions and keep informed about safety and emergency procedures.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Set up facilities (e.g., tables and chairs) for events and/or meetings as well as being a department representative for evening events.
- Keep buildings clean and well maintained before, during and after events.
- Custodial duties including cleaning and maintaining restrooms, spills and removal of trash.
- Responsible for regular cleaning and including scheduled deep cleaning.
- Paint, remodel, and refurbish areas as needed.
- Repair, maintain/monitor all equipment and amenities.
- Performance of building maintenance tasks in one or more fields (e.g. carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, etc.).
- Clean windows and glass doors.
- Change all filters for HVAC as required.
- Prepare classrooms for incoming classes; remove or rearrange furniture for events or classes, as needed.
- Remove and properly dispose of all recyclable materials.
- Change light bulbs, interior and exterior, as needed.
- Make ready all classrooms, studios, dorm as needed.
- On call maintenance for all facilities 24/7.
- Oversee service that provides trash removal and cleaning of dorms at end of school year.
- Maintain exterior property, including snow removal.
- Assist with all show installs/removals.
- Oversee daily trash removal, restocking/cleaning restrooms, sweeping/mopping/vacuuming, cleaning/disinfecting tables and counters, cleaning exterior entryway/cigarette receptacles, graffiti removal, cleaning/polishing/floor maintenance for elevators, cleaning/disinfecting. community surfaces (handrails, water fountains, vending machines, etc.)
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Working Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Works in varied weather conditions.
- May have some exposure to chemicals, electrical and plumbing materials.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Manual labor and requires prolonged standing and walking.
- Able to lift 50 lbs. on a frequent basis.
- Manual dexterity enough to operate cleaning equipment, move objects, operate hand and power tools, move and bend, twist and stoop, climb ladders in the performance of job duties.
- Vision enough to perform such functions when identifying materials to complete maintenance tasks.
- Mobility enough to walk over uneven, rocky surfaces.
