We have two US offices - one located near Boston, MA and the second near San Francisco, CA. We support our North American installation base in sales and service from these locations and are a small and close-knit team who enjoy what we do.

About the opportunity:
We encourage you to apply for our “Field Service Engineer” opportunity based from our Woburn, MA office ($80-$120k, plus bonus and extensive benefits).
Ideally you will live within a short commute of our (new and modern) Woburn office. Though most days you will travel directly to customer sites from your home office, you will need to come through the office weekly to pick up supplies and materials needed for your work.
As a Service Engineer with Kuhner you are responsible for assuring that our customers Kuhner instruments are well cared for. Our engineers enjoy the highest level of autonomy with a reasonably-paced and self-scheduled workflow.
Responsibilities will vary considerably from day to day - but will include taking calls and emails, conducting routine on-site equipment service, preventative maintenance and customer training/post-sales support.
Much of your customer support work will be directly in the Boston Area. You will also travel (overnight) to the Midwest and some southern states as needed (Travel will be ~25% overnight). Travel by car and by plane will be necessary depending on customer location. Travel to Switzerland, our training facility in Spain or annual meetings (Mexico) is required and therefor you will need a valid passport.
This is a customer-facing position and will require you to maintain a professional, positive and personable demeanor with our excellent customers.
Summary of tasks:
- Respond to customer requests for technical assistance (email, phone, in person).
- Independently schedule and manage appointments, calls and meetings.
- Maintain post-sales services such as Preventative Maintenance contracts.
- Document all repairs and work with equipment in our CRM.
- Assist with local trade show set up or tear down as required.
- Travel to Switzerland for trainings and certifications.
- Perform configuration and testing of new equipment here in the USA.
- Assist with office and warehouse support when needed.
Requirements:
- Excellent interpersonal skills (in person, telephone, and email skills).
- Organized, flexible and capable of balancing customer requests.
- Ability to use software such as Outlook, Salesforce, Quickbooks.
- Technical degree preferred from a 2 or 4-year program - documented previous technical experience and aptitude may be acceptable.
- Solid electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to use Handheld Electrical Test equipment and interpret the results.
- Ability to read electrical schematics.
- Solid mechanical troubleshooting skills; ability to understand how equipment works and use sound technical judgment to identify and solve mechanical problems.
- Safety is paramount; you must always use good judgment and follow company policies.
- Physically able to assist installation of equipment (using pallet jack, forklift and third party assistance) weighing up to 2000 lbs.
- Bend, squat, kneel, reach, or climb a step ladder while using small hand tools and installing parts (typically weigh less than 50lbs).
- Prepared to provide previous work or professional references and examples of how you would be a good fit.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and passport - international travel is required.
- Superior English – both written and verbal
