Under the supervision of the Manager of Capital Planning, the Financial Analyst manages the daily and monthly financial functions of the BMC Facilities and Real Estate departments, including financial reporting preparation, monthly journal entries, budgeting and forecasting, lease management and reporting, utilities management and reporting, procurement management, cash flow management, and accounts payable. The Financial Analyst works collaboratively with Accounting, Finance, and various departments throughout the Boston Medical Center Health System to effectively manage the financial operations and reporting requirements of the Facilities and Real Estate departments.
Essential Responsibilities / Duties:
  • Monitor and ensure financial policies and procedures are followed within the department; ensure financial information and plans remain confidential;
  • Act as the liaison between the Facilities, Accounting, Treasury, and Financial Planning departments to gain an understanding of interdepartmental needs; implement process improvements to align and achieve the goals of all departments;
  • Create and maintain an open line of communication with the Accounting, Treasury and Financial Planning departments;
  • Assist in the financial management and reporting of lease agreements; communicate with landlords, process and track payments, analyze lease and related operating expenses on a monthly basis to ensure expenses are accurately accrued through the preparation and posting of journal entries;
  • Ensure all real estate tax bills are paid in a timely manner and expenses are accurately reported in the financials; coordinate with the Legal department and assist in negotiations with the City of Boston, as needed;
  • Manage all utilities accounts; track outstanding bills, process payments in a timely manner, and ensure expenses are accurately accrued on a monthly basis;
  • Assist in the annual budget process for Facilities and Real Estate departments, as well as multi-year forecasting for expenses including, but not limited to: lease, real estate taxes, and utilities expense;
  • Oversee the financial management of buildings where BMC is Landlord; prepare and track tenant billings and payments; prepare and process expense and revenue accrual entries, expense allocations, and reconciliations
  • Achieve budget objectives by leading and providing guidance to team members, analyzing variances and initiating corrective action;
  • Maintain proper controls by channeling requests to directors for review, approval and invoice processing
  • Actively manage open balances and monitor aging purchase orders to enable efficient use of committed capital
  • Prepare monthly cash flow and financial data;
  • Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends;
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required. Major in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Economics preferred.

  • Knowledge and Skills:
  • Ability to independently produce clear financial analysis regarding complex issues
  • Advanced spreadsheet and database software required (i.e. MS Excel, Access)
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and develop skills and knowledge base.
  • Experience with or ability to learn Infor and Strata systems.
  • An independent thinker with a sense of urgency, a commitment to quality, and the ability to prioritize effort in a fast-paced environment.
  • Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills to deal effectively with all levels of management and prepare explanatory reports.
  • Effective English communication skills, both orally and written, on an impromptu basis, as position receives numerous video calls and drop-ins.
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, plan and handle multiple complex tasks and priorities.
  • A team player who can partner effectively with peers and senior leaders
  • Desire to learn and grow within the organization
