Food Safety Supervisor
The Irwindale Brew Yard is the newest addition to the City Brewing network. Once fully operational, Irwindale Brew Yard (IBY) will become the largest full-service, low-alcohol beverage contract production facility in the Western United States offering hard seltzers, traditional flavored malt beverages, mainstream and craft beer, premium non-alcoholic drinks and spirited based ready-to-drink beverages in a broad variety of primary and secondary packages. Irwindale Brew Yard has immediate openings for Food Safety Supervisor at our Irwindale, CA facility.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position leads, implementation, measurement, maintenance, and monitoring of HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) and Food Safety/Food Defense programs for the site and is a key contributor to the development of GFSI compliant standards and programs across the company.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops and executes HACCP and Food Safety/Food Defense programs, in alignment with corporate programs.
- Conducts Internal Audits of Prerequisite Programs and Preventive Controls and monitors the verification and validations of CCP’s.
- Works with Departments to identify Root Cause and Corrective Actions and monitors progress of Corrective Actions
- Establishes strong working relationships with site leadership and takes tangible actions to establish and sustain Food Safety as top-of-mind in day to day activities, leadership reviews and plant culture.
- Serves as Food Safety Site Lead for Regulatory visits, from FDA and State Inspection agencies, Customer and Third Party Food Safety Audits, including scheduling, communication, follow up actions, and audit documentation.
- Draws upon GFSI knowledge, credentials and experience to contribute to the establishment of corporate standardized Food Safety programs.
- Contributes to establishment of standardized FS and HACCP training at an enterprise level, and ensures execution of training plans and high engagement at a site level.
- Directs and documents regular HACCP Team and Food Defense Team meetings and coordinates efforts of members to accomplish team goals.
- Supervises activities of HACCP Coordinator / direct report(s) in plants with extended team.
- Works with Corporate HACCP/Food Safety Manager and with HACCP/Food Safety staff in other facilities to maintain awareness of current issues and establish aligned approaches to FS execution.
- Reviews and monitors all HACCP deviations to aid in corrective action decision making and ensure corrective actions are completed and documented accurately.
- Initiates, investigates, conducts Root Cause Analysis and verifies Incident Reports for all applicable Food Safety Incidents for the facility. This may include stopping lines or production, placing product on hold and/or releasing holds.
- Maintains knowledge of current State and Federal Food Safety regulations, customer and 3rd party requirements for Food Safety.
- Attends additional HACCP/Food Safety/Food Defense training as directed by the Corporate HACCP/Food Safety Manager.
- Maintains complete and accurate records of all applicable activities for verification of HACCP compliance.
- Serves as back-up PCQI and Food Defense Coordinator. Covers for all HACCP/Food Safety Coordinator responsibilities as needed.
- Works on special projects as assigned by Corporate HACCP/Food Safety Manager

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree qualification in Food Science and/or related science discipline.
- HACCP Certification, or ability to obtain certification upon hire. PCQI status desired.
- At least 2 years of experience with Beverage Industry HACCP/GMP programs and QASOP’s and SSOP’s required.
- At least 3 years of experience executing and managing Food Safety programs to a recognized GFSI standard, preferably ISO FSSC 22000 or BRCGS. Experience implementing Food Safety programs against a GFSI standard is desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
