By joining the Division of Forestry/Morehead Branch/Section II as a/an Forest Ranger Technician I in Montgomery county, you will have the opportunity to significantly contribute to ensuring the programmatic integrity of numerous forestry-related programs, and the consistent delivery of services to the public. During the performance of your assigned duties, you will interact on a daily/weekly basis with not only the public, but with branch personnel, branch management, and the division's program staff.

- Performing Wildland Fire Prevention, Suppression, Law Enforcement, and Related Activities•Conducting Timber Harvesting Compliance Inspections and Regulatory Enforcement
- Providing Forest Management Technical Assistance
- Performing Forestry Education and Public Outreach
- Ability to work independently
- Effective communication, organization, and documentation skills
- Proficient knowledge and use of information technology
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in the Biological or Physical Sciences.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Forest management experience will substitute for the associate's degree on the basis of two years of experience for one year of education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed outdoors on private forest lands. Work can be under adverse conditions due to weather, topography, or when suppressing wild land fires. Work also involves frequent contact with citizens and organizations in the promotion of forestry programs.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
