Job description
The Gas Supervisor is responsible for the management and oversight of field crews, and leads to foster a culture of employee engagement. Responsibilities include communicating clear expectations, monitoring performance using performance management techniques, observing and coaching employees in the field about safe work practices and compliance to standards while ensuring that training, development and taking disciplinary action as needed, and administering the appropriate labor contract.
This Supervisor is responsible for supervising a team of employees performing skilled craft work while overseeing the installation of underground gas utility projects.
Responsibilities:
· Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget and to quality expectations.
· Develops and/or executes action plans to address deficiencies in process or employee skill/knowledge and track the progress of those plans
· Completes and maintains all work documentation or reporting. Effectively utilizes resources by monitoring crew productivity.
· Identifies and pursues productivity improvements and implements work practices to reduce operating costs while meeting corporate and regulatory compliance.
· Identifies and reacts to complex field decisions, utilizing technical knowledge and experience to move forward quickly, considering cost, risk, safety, quality and customer impact. May make certain changes to the work plan as deemed necessary for the situation.
· Ensures that customers' needs and expectations are met.
· Facilitates or leads weekly team meetings/tailboards. Conducts training as needed.
· Regularly visits work sites to monitor progress.
· Develops and maintains work relationships, regional contacts and internal networks. May interact with local government, being able to foster business relationships for permit acquisition.
· Proactively prepares for emergency situations; supports company efforts during emergency situations; communicates deficiencies in emergency response/preparedness; resolves issues quickly and efficiently using the correct resources.
· May oversee the construction activities of subcontractors.
· Effectively manages field employees through recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management and rewards and recognition.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 5 years total relevant experience in a construction and/or utilities environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of gas utility distribution system concepts, methods, techniques and regulatory requirements.
- Leadership skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to deal with various stakeholders.
- Financial acumen to understand and evaluate project costs.
- Good computer skills with MS Office applications.
- Analytical problem solving and decision making ability.
- Must be eligible for employment in the United States.
