General Job Description:
Moscow & Pullman Building Supply is seeking a highly motivated and experienced General Manager to oversee the operations of our Moscow location. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing a team and driving results, along with a strong understanding of the lumber and building materials industry. As General Manager, you will be responsible for leading your team of employees while working to build a better company and ensuring long-term growth of MPBS through the effective management of the facility, inventory, employees, customer service, safety programs and policy.
Principal Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management
Provide leadership and direction to all employees, ensuring they are engaged, motivated and aligned with the company's vision, mission and values.- Develop and implement appropriate training and incentives to maximize performance, achieve goals, motivate staff and increase customer satisfaction.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and excellence while encouraging employees to think creatively and take ownership of their work.
- Coordinate with associate management team to ensure proper scheduling and staffing of all departments.
- Assist with the development of operational policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environment and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with Moscow and Pullman branch management, including the CEO, CFO and Operations Manager, to maintain standard operating principles and ensure alignment with the company's vision.
- Help our customers, employees and suppliers succeed through trust and partnership.
- Act with honesty and integrity.
Sales and Customer Service
Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers, understanding their needs and providing exceptional service and support by doing the following:- General relationship and trust building
- Taking advisement from customers on new products and services
- Working as a liaison between the customer and branch
- Meeting with unsatisfied customers to address needs or concerns
- Actively listening to customers and answering questions
- Promptly respond to all correspondence
- Ensuring that all complaints are acknowledged and addressed in a timely fashion
- Maintain a positive presence in the store by providing excellent customer service and by assisting customers in a positive, approachable manner.
- Assist Contracting Sales Manager with customer recruitment and retention.
- Help plan for and participate in all customer engagement sales and events.
- Hold team members accountable for providing exceptional customer service.
Logistics and Inventory Management
Demonstrate a keen understanding of the company's supply chain, including purchasing, inventory management, cost accounting and logistics.- Aid with monitoring supplier returns and vendor credits.
- Actively review and monitor all sales orders to ensure timely invoicing while also ensuring proper sales order and product fulfillment.
- Encourage cohesion between sales teams and Dispatch and Delivery.
- Help develop, drive and implement inventory management strategies to optimize inventory levels and ensure product availability.
- Monitor and analyze key performance metrics, identifying opportunities for improvement and taking corrective action as needed.
- Monitor retail stock and special order fulfillment strategies while ensuring that customers are receiving the very best in customer service.
- Directly work with inventory control personnel, buyers and merchandisers to ensure products are readily available and in sellable condition.
Principal Responsibilities:
Financial Performance
Assist CEO, CFO and Operations Manager in evaluating all operating units by using all available data points including monthly P&L statements, A/R reports and company established metrics to increase sales and margins, manage payroll dollars and reduce expenses.- Monitor financial performance, analyzing variances and trends and taking corrective action as needed.
- Work with leadership group and buyers to develop and implement pricing strategies to maximize profitability while remaining competitive in the market.
- Ensure consistent adherence to retail sales margin standards for all product categories, including special order and stocking items.
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies and accounting standards.
Employee Development
Work with Human Resources and Operations Management to elevate the quality of the company's employee base.- Work with Human Resources and Operations Management with hiring, training and development of a high-performing team, providing ongoing coaching and feedback.
- Provide associate management team with the support and guidance they need by conducting one-on-one coaching sessions and follow-up meetings as needed.
- Foster a culture of learning and development, providing employees with opportunities to grow and advance their careers.
- Coordinate, direct and participate in company-sponsored training and relationship building programs.
- Ensure compliance with all employment laws and regulations, maintaining a safe and inclusive work environment.
Facility Safety
Collaborate with the leadership team and safety committee to develop and improve safety policy and procedures.- Recognize health and safety hazards immediately and react appropriately and in accordance with company policy including "Safe to Stop" and "Wait a Minute."
- Work in a safe manner to protect yourself, co-workers and other around you.
- Develop plans for improvement and/or expansion to facilities and equipment.
- Ensure effective operations of programs in the areas of quality control, waste control, preventative maintenance and housekeeping for both the yard and store.

Requirements and Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in a leadership role in a lumberyard or similar business
- Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of supply chain management, inventory control and logistics
- Knowledge of financial analysis, budgeting and accounting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other business software applications
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Workplace Environment and Physical Demands:
- Most work will be performed from an climate controlled office space with the occasional need arising to work in the field or on a job site. Field and job site work may be required at any time and during any time of the year.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule is mandatory and means longer days as needed, occasional week-ends, promotional events, and some travel.
- The job, while often sedentary, will occasionally require the need for exerting up to 75 pounds of force and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly.
- The ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects will be required.
- Walking and/or standing for brief periods of time is also required.
