Position Description
Girls Inc. Camp Counselors will support all Summer Camp operational needs of Girls Inc.’s Adventure Camp and STEM Camp. Girls Inc.’s Adventure Camp will introduce girls to non-traditional activities (canoeing, hiking, biking, and overnight camping) and adventures that go beyond stereotypes and challenge them to set their own personal goals and create their own definitions of success. With our Girls Inc. STEM Camp, we will partner with STEM experts in the Madison area who will not only lead hands-on, minds-on STEM activities, but also teach our camp participants that they too can be STEM experts!
All Camp Leaders are required to attend training and support all Summer Camp prep needs from Tuesday, May 30 to Friday, June 16, 2023. Girls Inc. Summer Camp sessions start on June 19 and ends on Thursday, August 3, 2023.
Essential Functions
- Assist Girls Inc. team with all summer camp operational needs.
- Support administrative tasks before and during each camp session including finalizing attendance rosters, calling parents, creating name tags for campers, printing program calendars, replenishing camp supplies inventory, cleaning and sanitizing camp equipment (sleeping bags, tents).
- Record and enter daily attendance in GIGM’s attendance database, Compass 360 (C360).
- Provide health screenings to all participants entering camp.
- Adhere to Girls Inc.’s Summer Camp’s policies procedures, including pandemic safety procedures.
- Set up for and clean up following meals and activities.
- Support transitions in camp program schedule and help guide activities led by Girls Inc. Coordinators.
- Build mentoring relationships with Girls Inc. campers to help create a safe, encouraging environment where girls feel comfortable to take risks.
- Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties of this position.
Qualifications
- Must be 18+ years old.
- Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Required to pass Child Care Division Central Background Registry.
- Required to have valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record to be trained to drive a GCC van.
- Understanding of, appreciation for, and experience with ability, gender, sexual orientation, and socio-economically, ethnically, and culturally diverse populations.
- 1+ year(s) experience working directly with elementary age and or middle school age youth.
- Strong organizational, facilitating, and leadership skills.
- Excellent written/verbal comprehension/communication skills to interact with staff, volunteers, and community members.
- Proficient in office software including Outlook, MS Word, Adobe, Power Point, and Excel.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Ability to work in multiple environments (i.e., indoors, outdoors, schools, office, and out of office).
- Occasional weekend and evening hours based on program needs.
- Bilingual in Spanish and/or Hmong not required but desired.
- Preferred previous experience working in gender-specific programming.
