POSITION:
Group Fitness Instructor
DEPARTMENT:
Sports Club
REPORTS TO:
Fitness Director
JOB SUMMARY:
The group exercise instructor provides expert group exercise instruction to members in one or more group exercise disciplines, ensuring a fun, energizing, safe and non-intimidating environment that maximizes member participation.
INTERACTION:
- Frequent interaction with members and guests.
- Frequent interaction with assigned staff and club departments.
JOB TASKS:
- Maintain updated expertise in the specific classes taught.
- Ability to fill in when needed
- Ensure that all classes are taught in a safe and accepted manner as defined by national certification guidelines.
- Maximize class participation levels via the quality of classes and through personal promotion of your classes.
- Market self to members in a professional and club appropriate manner.
- Arrive on time to ensure that the studio is completely prepared for each class.
- Ensure that each class starts and ends on time.
- Learn and use member names.
- Assist with the cleanliness and maintenance of the group exercise studios and all fitness center facilities.
- Adhere to all company employee policies and procedures.
- Attends staff meetings as determined by Fitness Director.
- Provide accurate, appropriate and immediate responses to all requests by members and guests.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand, walk, balance, jump, stoop, and kneel, and other movements based on format of class.
- Use exercise equipment that is necessary for specific class being taught.
- Hearing and talking sufficient enough to communicate with members, guests, vendors, and staff.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, vision sufficient enough to read, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to push, pull or lift up to 50 lbs.
- Independent mobility through clubhouse.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- National certification for the specific classes being taught required.
- CPR and AED certification required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Group Exercise Instructions
- Able to teach a variety of formats.
