Position Description

The Division of Child and Family Services is recruiting for Group Supervisor (GS) III positions. GS III's perform duties involving the treatment, education, employment, training, care and custody of juvenile offenders residing within Summit View Youth Center. The goal of Summit View Youth Center is to promote positive self-growth, create change in behavior, attitudes, values and ways of thinking.

GS III's coordinate and oversees group and individual treatment sessions; develop session goals, rules and content using prescribed methods; document group and individual treatment and activities; and prepare individual progress summary reports for review by the treatment team, committing judge, parole officer, legal guardian, and institutional staff. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

This is a full time position that will be located in Las Vegas. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who provide supervision to Direct Care staff by overseeing activities, job assignments, and performance. Ensuring staff are familiar with, understand and perform duties in accordance with established policies and procedures. This position also manages daily operation of housing units by inspecting for security, safety violation, needed maintenance, adequate shift coverage and staff/youth ratios per federal and state law (1;8 during the day 1;16 at night). Coordinating and overseeing group and individual counseling sessions, reviewing Treatment Plans, developing special youth programs as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, sociology, counseling and guidance, human services, social services, education, criminal justice or closely related field and one year of experience working with youth in a custodial, employment program, therapeutic, educational, recreational program or correctional setting with responsibility for performing vocational assessments, making oral presentations during group sessions and treatment team meetings, and providing vocational and life skills training to juvenile offenders; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience as described above; OR one year as a Group Supervisor II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Special Requirements

Per NAC 284.317, applicants must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
