We are the nation's largest manufacturer of steel wire reinforcing products for concrete construction applications. We manufacture and market prestressed concrete (PC) strand and welded wire reinforcement, including engineered structural mesh, concrete pipe reinforcement, and standard welded wire reinforcement for concrete reinforcement applications. The company operates ten manufacturing facilities in eight states.

This position is located at our Gallatin, Tennessee facility. Located 30 miles from Nashville, Gallatin is thriving with unique shopping boutiques, delicious dining options, family-friendly festivals, and a memorable historic downtown square. There is also an abundance of recreational activities for the outdoor enthusiast.

Position Snapshot

You will partner with management and employees to grow and sustain a culture of operational excellence and “zero harm” (managing risk so no injuries to employees or property damage, environmental impact, community, shareholder or customer harm occur while doing work). Provide expertise, creativity, and initiative in planning, attracting, developing, and retaining the talent to operate the plant in the most productive and cost-efficient manner. Serve as the “Subject Matter Expert” in Human Resources practices, processes, policies, and legal compliance to protect company resources and foster a positive work environment and a reputation as a great place to work. To be successful in this role you will:

  • Promote a safe workplace through systemic and proactive safety and environmental health practices and processes. Demonstrates mastery of OSHA compliance and workers compensation.
  • Develop and lead a culture of positive employee relations, including employee activities, communications, and community service.
  • Practice superior Human Resources customer service and response.
  • Partner with the General Manager in selecting and developing operations leaders capable of carrying out needed operations strategies and improving employee relations.
  • Use creativity and resourcefulness in attracting the right talent to the operation.
  • Strategically partner with department managers to improve retention.
  • Coordinate onboarding and training for new hires.
  • Manage the plant HR/Safety Budget process and implement cost effective systems of control over expenditures, staffing, and wages, including maintaining the integrity of the Insteel Pay for Skills system.
  • Successfully administer and communicate all aspects of the company’s benefits program, including promoting the benefits of participating in the company’s 401(k) program.
  • Effectively monitor staffing projections, turnover trends, and talent gaps, including staffing contingency plans for quick responsiveness to various operations situations.
  • Support and ensure compliance with Insteel policies and procedures and local, state, and federal regulatory agencies, while ensuring adherence to the Insteel Code of Conduct.
  • Drive internal and external communications to ensure consistent employee focus on short-term and long-term objectives.
  • Continue to represent Insteel as a valuable and outstanding corporate citizen in its communities.

Qualifications to be considered for the role:

  • Extensive professional training (Bachelor's Degree) in Labor Relations, Human Resources, or a similar discipline.
  • Masters/MBA is a plus.
  • 3-5 years of progressive Human Resources and Safety experience with a demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Significant experience in the following: Human Resources in manufacturing operations, understanding of general accounting and budgeting principles, leadership skills in identifying and assembling teams to drive results, understanding of business strategies, and a track record of processes and programs that achieve positive and quantifiable results.
  • Experience with HRMS/HRIS/ERP would be helpful.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP, preferred.
  • Completed OSHA 30-hour training, preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and work-related experience may be acceptable.
