JOB SUMMARY:

The Infection Prevention Coordinator is trained in hospital epidemiology principles and is responsible for the oversite of the surveillance, analysis, interpretation and reporting of hospital acquired infections (HAI); educating employees about infection prevention; and the development of health system policies and procedures to insure rigorous infection prevention and control standards that meet OSHA, Centers for Medicaid/Medicare Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other nationally organized agencies recommendations and requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Chair of Infection Prevention committee, set agenda, facilitate meeting.
• Recommend new and update of existing policies for management approval.
• Conduct Surveillance activities for healthcare associated infections.
• Conduct/oversee monthly environmental rounding.
• Monitor and update culture log.
• Monitor Infection Prevention Log, Quality report and Plan -BCH and flu log.
• Coordinate investigations during outbreaks of infectious disease or clusters of healthcare associated infections.
• Communicate clearly and effectives with management, co-workers, physicians, and other customers regarding infection prevention
• Assist the organization in setting Infection Prevention practices based on evidence and best practice.
• Develop and implement performance improvement measures for evaluation of effectiveness of the program/plan. Participate in local, regional, and national programs for improvement.
• Respond to IP & E priority measures, issues and questions raised by the Infection Prevention Committee.
• Maintain compliance with federal/state regulations by remaining knowledgeable of all changes that occur.
• Culture reports review.
• Employee health, vaccinations, exposures.
• Environmental rounding, notifying managers, follow-up.
• IP reporting daily of COVID-19 treatment medications, PPE, vaccinations, daily acuity (Med/Surg/ER), COVID-19 testing.
• Coordinate Front Door screener(s), schedules and timecards.
• COVID-19 vaccinations/ordering, tracking, administration, IRIS, EMR, reporting adverse events.

Professional Communication:

• Provide information to customers with a variety of developmental and sociocultural backgrounds
• Provide information to customers to reduce anxiety and convey an attitude of acceptance, sensitivity, and caring.
• Maintain effective team combinations and maintain deadlines for completion of plans and projects.
• Maintain, analyze, and report data measurements to management and physicians.
• Identify problems and effectively utilize resources to address them in a satisfactory manner.

Teamwork:

• Coordinate activities to meet the Infection Prevention needs and goals of the campus.
• Report on the HAI, PI measures, and outbreak investigations to those who require information, including physicians, management, Infection Prevention Committee, and other staff.
• Work cooperatively with diverse personalities under demanding circumstances and with rapidly changing priorities.

Education and/or Experience:

Minimum of Associate’s degree (A.D.N.) or Diploma Nurse (BSN preferred) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Idaho
• Current BLS certification.
• Minimum of one (1) year work experience in the operating room.
