Position Summary:
Yeshiva University (YU) is investing significantly in its rapidly expanding graduate schools and has created a new position to support international student recruitment. This is an exciting growth opportunity for a highly motivated and committed professional to join a fast-paced, graduate school environment at one of the nation's Top-100 universities.
Supporting the Cardozo Law School and the Katz School of Science and Health, the graduate DSO will be responsible for issuing I-20s; helping to prepare students for the visa process; following up on students during the process; reporting outcomes to the deans' offices; ensuring compliance with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requirements; assessing program needs and recommending new policies and procedures; advocating for the interests of international students and ensuring that the team is responsive to the needs of international students.
The International Student Advisor reports to the graduate schools and works closely with YU Office of International Students and Services.
Position Responsibilities:
- Review students' applications for the I-20: Certificate of Eligibility for Non-Immigrant Students following strict deadlines; answer students' I-20 application questions; maintain constant communication with students to request additional documents as needed for the completion of the I-20 form.
- Assist students with access to Terra Dotta, the Yeshiva University international student management system as necessary.
- Prepare and coordinate the submission of student immigration documents. Process I-20 in SEVIS, sign and send I-20 to students with pre-arrival information.
- Reprocess and send I-20 if arrival is delayed for same initial semester.
- Track I-20 application and visa progress in SEVIS.
- Track student admission deferrals and provide timely update of new initial I-20s for the future semester.
- Advise international students and their dependents and help them maintain lawful immigration status through continuous education on immigration regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Review and determine eligibility of prospective students for student visa; issue immigration documents necessary to obtain the F-1 student visa; advise students on the process for obtaining the student visa at the US embassy; serve as a DSO to students in F-1 student status per DHS regulations.
- Help YU's Office of International Services on all aspects of institutional compliance with federal regulations by performing timely and accurate registration and reporting of all F-1 students to the government.
- Serve as a resource for requirements and regulatory changes and updates to international student laws and procedures (for Katz and Cardozo students).
- Implement Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) and Title 5 regulations as they pertain to a student's right to privacy and accuracy and retention of academic records.
- Provide information on federal regulations for international students who wish to transfer to Katz School of Science and Health and Cardozo School of Law. Review and determine eligibility for transfer.
- Work with Student Finance Office and Office of International Services to project and update the cost of attendance on the I-20.
- Coordinate and plan programs that support the needs of F-1 students including the development and implementation of retention strategies and new student orientation programs.
- Coordinate with Office of International Services in submission of I-17 for academic program updates.
Experience & Educational Background:
- Bachelor's degree; master's degree preferred
- Three years of admissions or international student advising experience
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required to be a Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer for SEVIS data entry
Skills & Competencies:
- Experience with I-20 issuance and/or immigration advising as it relates to students including SEVIS
- Experience with CRM (Salesforce, Banner, etc)
- Experience with data extraction (querying) and manipulation (e.g., mail merge)
- Experience with Terra Dotta
Salary Range:
$65,000-$80,000
