    Job Summary
    Assembles, installs, maintains, repairs and/ or replaces fixtures, valves, fittings, and pipes of all makes and types, according to all applicable codes in existing buildings, remodeling, and new construction. Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are required and are essential functions of this position.

    Essential Functions
    • Tests, Installs, monitors, adjusts and maintains backflow devices.
    • Cleans plugged drains in fountains, sinks, toilets, urinals, main Drain lines, and sewers.
    • Repairs or replaces pipes, (water, sewer, steam and condensate systems).
    • Repairs or replaces faucets, flush valves, sinks, toilets, urinals, fountains, thermostats, and valves.
    • Alters blueprints to meet as built dimensions and specifications.
    • Trouble shoots and rewires basic electric controls for boilers, water heaters, electric fountains, pumps, uni-vents, dampers, coils, fans, heat exchangers, air handlers and associated heating equipment.
    • Repairs, replaces, pump seals and bearing assemblies. And all other associated components of a pump.
    • Works with outside agencies and utilities to schedule shutdowns for repair and maintenance.
    • May be assigned to participate in organizations, committees and sub-committees as needed.
    • Attendance and physical presence are required and is an essential function of this position.
    • Maybe asked to work directly with an apprentice and offer on the job training

    Non-Essential Functions
    • May be required to maintain swimming pool treatment and control stations. Repair or replace swimming pool filters.
    • May be required to install, repair and maintain heating pipes, Electronic and or, pneumatic valves, temperature controlling thermostats, mixing valves and steam traps.

    Required Education and Qualifications
    High school diploma or equivalent
    Must have an active and current State of Utah issued Journeyman or Master Plumber license. (Residential plumbing license will not be accepted)
    Obtain any continued education hours required to renew such license.
    Must keep abreast of changing developments in techniques in relevant fields.
    Must have a current and valid Utah driver’s license.
    May be required to possess and maintain a current back flow certification.
    May be required to possess and maintain a current Pool & Spa certification

    Required Prior Experience
    Requires four years of job related and carefully monitored training with demonstrated competence or acceptable equivalent.

    Required Knowledge and Skills
    • Blueprint and schematic literacy is required.
    • Knowledge of hand tools, small and large power tools, testing instruments, ladders, scaffolds, man lifts, cutting tools.
    • Must have a good working knowledge of relevant building and safety codes including pertinent aspects of OSHA, EPA, MSDS and ADA.
    • Must have basic mathematical skills.
    • Must be skilled in oral and written communications and interpersonal relations.
    • Must be able to plan work and organize temporary workers, materials, and equipment for specific projects.
    Assigned Decision Making
    May consult with administrators, teachers, co-workers, and patrons to assist in the timely completion of projects. Assists in planning work projects. Assures that each assignment has sufficient tools, materials, and supplies. Determines repairs and replacements of equipment as needed. Prioritizes work for specific jobs assigned. Must be able to perform assigned tasks without on-site supervision. May determine that the use of specific equipment is a danger to the user and remove the equipment or neutralize it in place.

    Interactions with Others
    Interacts positively with students, teachers, principals, district personnel and other outside vendors or agencies.

    Supervisory Responsibility
    Requires ability to motivate apprentices.
    Ability to plan and initiate activities.
    Responsible for planning work as assigned, assuring a high-quality finished product.
    Makes specific work assignments and monitors performance of assigned employees.
    Assist in evaluating performance of apprentices

    Budget Responsibility
    Financially responsible to maintain and track purchase card usage and follow purchasing guidelines.
    Maintaining and tracking of inventory.

    Working Environment
    Subject to a variety of temperatures. Responds to district emergencies during irregular hours. May be subject to high locations, awkward positions, heat, noise, dirt, chemicals, and confined spaces. May have occasional stress from emergencies and in meeting deadlines. Interruptions may occur while performing work requiring accuracy and concentration.

    Physical Requirements – Not limited to the following:
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and/or hear. Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch. Occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance.
    • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
    • Occasional heavy lifting, generally not exceeding 100 lbs.
