Instructional Coach (K-2)
The Philadelphia Charter School for Arts & Sciences seeks a full-time K-2 Instructional Coach to join the team at our neighborhood campus located at 1197 Haworth Street.
At Arts & Sciences, students in grades K-8 engage in a unique educational program designed to grow the next generation of creative leaders, and where students focus on the arts and sciences as major subjects alongside a technology-infused, standards-driven academic curriculum. Overview:
The Instructional Coach is a critical lever in improving student achievement Philadelphia Charter School for the Arts and Sciences. The role of the coach is to build teacher capacity and their understanding of instructional practices as related to the Danielson Framework, Common Core and Data Driven Instruction. An instructional coach is a learner who models continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. All instructional coaches work collaboratively as a team with members of the administration and Academic Team.
Instructional coaches will promote reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, and focus on strengths, collaboration and common issues of concern. They are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and providing feedback to teachers. The instructional coach will demonstrate and model a passion for urban education reform and leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Education or Related Field
- Relevant PA Instructional Certification or Reading Specialist
- Criminal history, child abuse and FBI clearances (Acts 34, 151 and FBI)
Goals:
GOAL 1: Set Vision and Direction - Instructional Coaches establish a clear vision that is aligned with our school learning goals and with his/her grade and content-specific learning and performance targets. The Instructional Coach takes outcomes-driven actions to maintain alignment with this vision and develop teachers to be similarly vision-driven.
GOAL 2: Organize, Plan, Execute - Instructional Coaches are able to organize, prioritize, track, and manage workflow and resources.
GOAL 3: Influence and Motivate Stakeholders- Instructional Coaches draw on an understanding of others to achieve desired outcomes and inspire action through shaping beliefs and behaviors. The coach becomes known as an authentic and clear communicator.
GOAL 4: Learn and Continuously Improve – Instructional Coach strives to continuously develop and better themselves, their teams, and their school.
Duties:
- Work directly with the administrative team to raise student achievement
- Monitor and respond to content data to ensure the success of the mission
- Write informal teacher observations to improve teacher practice
- Regularly attend and actively participate in Teacher Lead meetings to collaborate with colleagues regarding grade-specific and school-wide concerns.
- Send weekly/bi-weekly team emails sharing positives within the team and highlighting school/grade priorities.
- Prepare for and lead grade-level meetings to support teachers’ development in mobilizing parents/guardians, designing classroom procedures, communicating high expectations for behavior, and leveraging relevant data for the purpose of identifying and responding to achievement gaps.
- Lead data meetings for grade-wide data interventions and re-teach
- Facilitate smooth and efficient communication between administration and teachers
- Create and support a strong grade-wide culture that seeks to support all students
- Work with administrators and counselors to respond to student data in meaningful ways, including the referral of students to the RTII program
- Become experts in the kids, data, and norms of the grade and content
