Job Description

Position Goal: To provide leadership and direction in the improvement of instructional practice and student performance in North Country Supervisory Union schools in their K-8 classrooms.

Qualifications:
  • Passionate about teaching and learning, as well as an in-depth knowledge of content and pedagogy in reading and writing processes, comprehension, vocabulary acquisition, assessment, and instruction.
  • Master’s Degree or graduate level coursework in literacy.
  • A minimum of 5 successful years classroom experience with demonstrated effective literacy practices.
  • Excellent presentation skills, collaborative skills, and group leadership skills.
  • Experience in modeling universal and intervention reading, writing, and word study lessons, and preferred experience with NCSU literacy best practices including workshop model.
  • A willingness to learn, and receptive to feedback.
  • Such other qualifications as the Supervisory Union Board may find appropriate.

Responsibilities:
  • Support teachers in the North Country Schools system in literacy teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with instructional coaches, specialists, coordinators, and administrators.
  • Facilitate implementation of comprehensive balanced literacy curriculum by providing technical assistance and on-going support for teachers to: Identify, utilize and implement learning activities and materials; employ effective teaching strategies; evaluate student progress; participate in student screening and progress monitoring.
  • Design and facilitate professional development opportunities for classroom teachers and interventionists.
  • Work with teachers and interventionists to support students who have unique learning needs and recommend appropriate instructional and differentiation practices.
  • Demonstrate best instructional practice through modeling and coaching, strengthening universal instruction.
  • Assist building and district efforts to implement high quality literacy instruction and intervention aligned with VT-AOE initiatives and the Common Core State Standards.

Salary and Benefits: As per Teacher’s Negotiated Agreement.

Must have or be eligible for appropriate Vermont AOE licensure.
