Position Summary


Under the direction of the Director of Supply Chain, Warehouse & Logistics, the Logistics Specialist role is responsible for the daily operations of receiving and distribution. Responsibilities include the Receipt, and Distribution of Materials, Samples, Supplies and Equipment at the Gritstone bio, Emeryville location.

The Logistics Specialist ensures all activities within span of control meet or exceeds Gritstone bio’s standards and meet full compliance of all applicable regulatory governing (e.g., FDA, EU, USDA, DEA, and DOT, etc.). In addition, this position is accountable for ensuring safe, cost-effective, and efficient receiving and distribution operations.

This role will assist in the daily operations of all Receiving, Shipping and Distribution activities. Hands on and direct support across functions is necessary as set forth by the Associate Director, Warehouse Operations & Logistics.

This position will assist in the creation of procedures, plans and documentation as associated with the receiving & distribution functions.

Minimum Education/Experience

  • BS/BA required (science or business preferred), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Requires formal training in supply chain management, logistics, or closely related discipline.
  • Requires a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ experience that includes: in-depth understanding of receiving and distribution operations, in the Pharma/Biotech field or relevant field.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Trade Compliance responsibilities, in both import and export logistics.
  • Cold Chain experience a plus.
  • Working experience and knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements (FDA, EU, FAA, IATA, DOT, Customs, and OSHA).
  • Experience / ability to understand and develop procedures and other controlled documents required.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced, start-up environment.
  • Self-motivated, self-disciplined, and able to function independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work in an evolving environment
  • Computer competency (ERP Systems, NetSuite WMS a plus) (MS Word, Excel)
  • Must possess excellent attention to detail and analytical thinking.
  • Must have excellent technical writing ability, oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of software packages and technologies used in a typical logistics operation, specifically Microsoft Office.
  • Perform administrative and/or physical task involved in the shipping, receiving, and distribution of Materials, Samples, Supplies and Equipment.
  • Supports the implementation of departmental operations, strategies, policies and procedures in accordance with all applicable governing bodies including but not limited to FDA, EU, USDA, DOT, CBP, OSHA, and in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, goals and objectives.
  • Performs all activities of Receiving and Distribution functions. Implements and administers all systems and processes for maintaining control of 1) receiving transaction accuracy, 2) distribution of controlled temperature materials and methods, 3) domestic and international transportation programs, housekeeping, and compliance.
  • Maintains appropriate training to properly perform job associated roles/responsibilities and operate in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Writes and reviews reports upon request. Performs, documents and reviews change controls and investigations within their area of responsibility.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to push and pull up to 125 lbs. with a pallet jack/cart.
  • Must be able to climb ladder and stairs.
  • Some domestic travel may be required.

Gritstone bio anticipates that the annual base salary for the Logistics Specialist position could range between $63,000 - 104,000. Compensation will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s credentials for the role, including education, qualifications, and type as well as length of experience. Any offered salary is also based on internal equity, internal position salary ranges, and market data. The salary range listed does not include any applicable bonuses or long-term incentives, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. Gritstone is a multistate employer and the salary offered will be market competitive. At Gritstone, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

Gritstone’s benefit package includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and paid parental leave. Employees are also eligible to enroll in the 401k plan, which includes a 4% company match with immediate vesting. Employees are eligible to enroll in benefits effective the first day of employment and the competitive Paid Time Off (PTO) begins accruing on the first day as well. The job offer also includes an equity grant and eligibility for annual refresh grants based on performance.
