Description


Provides direct and indirect patient care in the surgery and ambulatory setting. Communicates with physicians and nurses about changes in patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies, and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.

Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. Follows the seven (7) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Ability, under direct supervision of an RN, to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures in OR and ambulatory areas appropriate. Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patients response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness. Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers and physicians. Documentation meets current standards and policies.


Qualifications


Minimum Education

Graduate of LPN program with certificate or diploma

Required Licenses
Current Mississippi licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocation Nurse (LVN); or current Compact State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocation Nurse (LVN)

Required Skills
Must have an updated American Heart Association approved Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification. If employee does not have a current ACLS, PALS or NRP at time of hire or transfer, then employee will have six months from day of hire, or transfer, to obtain, or update, ACLS, PALS or NRP certification. If employee does not have a current BLS at time of hire or transfer, then employee will have one month from day of hire, or transfer, to obtain, or update, BLS certification.
