About the BLOOM Alliance

The BLOOM Alliance is a partnership between three organizations - the Social Justice Learning Institute, Brotherhood Crusade, and Becoming a Man. The BLOOM Alliance is a continuation of the BLOOM/Building a Lifetime of Option and Opportunities for Young Men Initiative started by the California Community Foundation (CCF) in 2012. BLOOM was a $7 million initiative to address the overwhelming disparities faced by Black male youth involved in L.A. County’s juvenile justice system. Over its seven years, the Social Justice Learning Institute (SJLI) and Brotherhood Crusade (BHC) delivered programs that uncover the true potential of Black boys and young men.

In 2019, CCF turned over the leadership, management, oversight, fundraising and evaluation of the program to the original community partners Social Justice Learning Institute and Brotherhood Crusade. Becoming a Man (BAM), a program of Youth Guidance was selected to join SJLI and Brotherhood Crusade with this effort to form the BLOOM Alliance. The three BLOOM Alliance partner organizations - Brotherhood Crusade (BHC), Social Justice Learning Institute and BAM are ideally suited to continue and expand the mission set out

by BLOOM.

THE BLOOM Alliance Organizational Structure

The BLOOM Alliance’s organizational structure consists of an Executive Committee composed of Executives from the three partner organizations who function as a de-facto board; a Lead Team composed of senior program staff of the three partner organizations responsible for program implementation, the BLOOM Alliance Managing Director and a BLOOM Alliance Coordinator.
