GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Material Handler (Packer) will verify products from suppliers transact these items into the system and properly stage items for put away.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSTIION
- Follow company packing procedures and standards
- Reviews shipments for quality and accuracy, reviews accompanying documents for accuracy.
- Confirms receiving details or special instructions
- Collects and properly disposes of cardboard, and strapping; maintains a safe and clean work environment.
- Work at different stations as needed
- Inspect, weigh, and package products
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Typical work activities are opening boxes, verifying product against packing slip, processing the items in system and placing labels on packages
- Place items in various containers, such as boxes and bags.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
- EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in a distribution center is desired but not required. Willing to train.
- SKILLS: Excellent oral and written communications skills. Some computer skills are required
- ADDITIONAL: Hands –on ability to work in a fast-pace, team-oriented distribution center environment. Required to work independently and with limited supervision. Must have the ability to make decisions. Must be able to maintain regular and acceptable attendance, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures and to accept constructive criticism.

- Must wear safety gear such as goggles, steel toes footwear and gloves, when handling box cutters or similar tools.

- Standing and/or walking for entire shift and ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment
- Able to stand up to 4 hours at a time
- Bending and/or stooping repeatedly throughout shift
- Lift and/or carry up to 40 pounds unassisted on a regular basis
- Be able to work in a non-climate controlled environment
WORK HOUR REQUIREMENT
- 8 hours and OT as the business requires
