At Hawkins Parnell & Young, you will have the opportunity to participate in working on national accounts and be part of a team of seasoned trial attorneys handling product liability, premises and/or tort defense. This position is fully remote to start and then may transition into a hybrid work schedule.

What You Will Be Doing:

• Evaluating responsive strategies for incoming cases, including filing motions, challenging venue, forum and jurisdiction
• Determining course of discovery and necessary investigation
• Researching people, businesses and worksites
• Representing clients at depositions of fact witnesses, experts, codefendant corporate employees, including preparation and witness examination
• Conferring with clients and recommending resolution strategies
• Preparing and arguing discovery and pretrial motions
• Regularly reporting to clients, carriers and national counsel, following litigation guidelines and formatting
• Advocating for client at contested hearings and mediations
• Briefing at pretrial, trial and appellate level
• Thinking analytically and taking proactive approach to litigation
• Collaborating with partners and associates nationally, especially in Chicago and St. Louis
• Participating in regular firm meetings to evaluate litigation trends, strategies
• Marketing the firm across a breadth of practice area
• Speaking at conferences and writing articles to advance practice growth

What You Need to Bring:

• Ability to thrive in a high-paced environment, requiring exceptional organizational skills, juggling priorities, and adherence to strict deadlines
• Must be a self-starter who can handle multiple projects with competing demands and meet deadlines
• Client-focused mentality
• Ability to work flexibly and independently within a strong team
• Excellent academic credentials and strong writing, analytical, and communications skills
• Intellectual curiosity, keeping current on litigation trends and recent legal opinions
• Ability to travel to the Chicago office as well as other locations.
• Actively licensed and in good standing in Michigan and Illinois
• At least 4-6 years of litigation experience, including deposition and courtroom experience
