JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of a designated team leader, the Network Specialist or Network Administrator 1 will provide complex technical support including installation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and problem-solving in support of the University’s wired and wireless network environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists senior technical personnel with the installation, upgrade, and maintenance of the University's wired and wireless network.
- Uses standard diagnostic techniques to analyze, identify, and solve problems.
- Assists with the development of plans and processes that minimize risk to services or systems due to errors.
- Assists with planning and implementation of technical projects, as part of a project team.
- Performs established departmental and manufacturer processes and procedures and best practices to provision network services.
- Participate effectively as a team member on technical projects.
- Performs related work as required.
Additional Job Duties for Network Administrator 1
- Provides domain competency and technical support in network systems delivering wired and wireless and data network services. Confers with technical leadership in research, evaluation, and identification of technology solutions.
- Supports network operations including installation, provisioning, operating, tuning, upgrading, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of devices and related services.
- Develops and implements scripts to assist with automation and efficiencies.
- Consults with senior network staff and end users to resolve problems with network systems and/or services.
- Trains non-technical staff on procedures and technology with the subject matter.
- Uses various software and hardware tools, and installs software and/or hardware.
- Carries out small to moderately-sized technical tasks with minimal assistance and writes summaries of technical project work in the appropriate format.
- Supports senior technical personnel with installation, upgrades, and maintenance.
- Responds to inquiries and collaborates with external departments.
- Uses standard/industry diagnostic techniques to analyze, identify, and resolve problems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate's degree in computer science or related discipline and 2 years of related experience; or a bachelor's degree in a related field; or four years of technical work experience in a computer related field.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for a Network Administrator 1
- Associate's degree in computer science or related discipline and four years of related experience; or a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of related experience; or six years of technical work experience in a computer related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Working experience with wired and wireless networking technologies and protocols.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Cisco wireless networking systems.
Additional Preferred Qualifications a Network Administrator 1
- Working experience with Infoblox DDI.
- Working experience with Cisco Prime Infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Cisco DNA Center
- Ability to work effectively with vendors, staff, and users at all levels.
