General Position Summary:

The Buyer is responsible for purchasing goods and services in a multi-site environment, negotiating service agreements, and managing vendor relationships. In addition, the Buyer s responsible for implementing and training users on purchasing procedures. The Buyer also acts as procurement support and buyer for projects.

Essential Functions:

  • Vendor Selection: Obtains competitive bids for non-trade goods and services through the RFP process, establishes preferred vendors within commodity categories, and negotiates prices with new and existing vendors. Conducts supplier reviews, and maintains ongoing supplier relationships.
  • Import-Export Coordination: Ensures cross border transactions comply with regulatory and internal policy.
  • Purchasing Transactions: Facilitates procurement activities from the time of requisition through invoice approval.
  • Oracle Tasks: Implements sourcing tools such as punch-out, online stores, blanket and standard POs. Uses management reports to ensure accurate and timely receipt of products, PO closing, and, invoice matching for all POs.
  • Training: Conducts training sessions on purchasing procedures and Oracle iProcurement applications through online and classroom environments for new users and managers.
  • Project Support: Participate on project teams providing purchasing support, as well as ensuring correct vendor selection, products, price, and delivery schedule to meet project team objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Business major preferred
  • Minimum 7 years purchasing experience.
  • Knowledge of Oracle, MS Offfice and general PC knowledge required.
  • Basic knowledge of import-export is preferred.
  • General understanding of finance and accounting principles
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels as well as with suppliers.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent negotiating skills.

Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions:

  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen.
  • Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.

Job Conditions:

Business office environment with computers and printers; light traffic.
