The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking a 100% Nurse Clinical Coordinator for the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Summary:
Functions as a clinical navigation expert within the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center while interfacing with administrative, clinical nursing staff, providers, and patients/families. Provides leadership and supervision to the navigators within the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center while also functioning in the Nurse Navigator role. Assists the leadership team with gathering data and reflecting on patient outcomes to improve the process.
Responsibilities:
Provides leadership for direct patient care programs in area of specialization collaborating with unit-based nurse management team(s).
Participates in decision-making process at clinic/division/department level for issues that impact clinical practice.
Provides constructive feedback and support to nurse navigators and nursing support staff to assist them to improve their performance.
Monitors and evaluates nursing personnel as delegated in accordance with established evaluation criteria, and university policies.
Participates in the process of interviewing and hiring support personnel
Implements disciplinary activities and carries out corrective measures as required.
Assumes responsibility for administrative or divisional activities that are delegated by the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center Clinic Nurse Manager.
Participates in/provides leadership for divisional, departmental and/or intra institutional and community committees and projects.
Provides input into financial management activities including operational budgetary decisions and cost containment.
Participates in the ongoing implementation of current regulatory standards to meet state and national agency accreditation.
Performs other special projects and tasks as assigned.
Leadership Responsibilities:
Serves as liaison and resource to potential patients, referring physicians and public relative to the Nurse Navigation Program, assuring positive interactions and providing program information and materials; responds to questions appropriately and accurately; demonstrates knowledge of the program and associated processes.
Responsible for onboarding, training, ongoing mentoring, and competency assessment for navigation team.
Proactively assesses and identifies opportunities for improvement of navigator program and role. Completes analysis, educates, and resolves issues in timely manner.
Works with manager in developing and updating navigation program policies and procedures.
Trends data and outcomes as established for the navigation program. Identifies gaps to improve patient care across the continuum.
Assists with covering navigation services determined by program needs due to attrition, leaves, etc.
Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: M-F 0800-1630. No nights, no holidays, no weekends. Will need to work at least wo late shifts every four weeks.

Requirements:
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is required.
- Reasonable (3-5 years) recent oncology nursing experience required.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient in computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and various databases.
- Current Iowa Nursing License.
- Experience managing complex information requiring attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Demonstrated experience with electronic medical records.
- Demonstrated experience providing education to patients.
- Previous 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Clinical Oncology Nurse Certification (OCN, BMTCN)
- Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA), or Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP) is encouraged.
- Experience in developing SOP’s.
- Knowledge of University of Iowa policies, procedures and regulations.
- Experience in conducting audits to ensure compliance to relevant regulatory policies or documents.
