Nurse Manager
Normal Working Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
Location: Crisis Diversion Center
The Nurse Manager is responsible for the clinical practice of nursing which includes directing all services provided by the nurses and mental health technicians at the Crisis Diversion Center. The individual hired for this position ensures the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, programs, and services consistent with the Authority’s goals and objectives and are in compliance with ADMH and the Alabama Board of Nursing. The Nurse Manager works with and actively participates in a leadership role by consulting with the Crisis Center Director in designing and providing total client care and services, oversight of QA/QI/PI processes related to nursing services. This is a highly responsible position that requires strong supervisory skills, thorough knowledge of performance improvement processes in the nursing setting, and the demonstrated ability to teach basic nursing skills to staff of varying levels of education and nursing skill.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
Oversee and supervise all RNs, LPNs, and Mental Health Technicians working in the observation units of the Crisis Diversion Center
Train other nursing staff or mental health technician staff to properly follow the policies and procedures in the Crisis Diversion Center
Conduct QA/QI activities as needed and report medication errors to ADMH
Provide initial, annual, and on-going training of nursing and mental health technician staff regarding the programmatic operations and policies
Provide direct nursing skill supervision to the nurses in the Crisis Diversion Center to insure nurses follow proper nursing technique
On-call responsibility
Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Current licensure with the Alabama Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN).
BSN Required
JOB DESCRIPTION
Five years of nursing experience gained after licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) was obtained is required.
Four years’ experience working with seriously mentally ill individuals preferred.
Two years’ experience in nursing administration and/or dedicated leadership experience in psychiatric nursing.
Progressive management experience in psychiatric nursing
A thorough knowledge of Alabama Board of Nursing standards, ADMH standards, OSHA regulations and all other state and federal regulatory standards
Experience developing a culture of excellence and high-quality nursing services
High energy individual with a passion for working in psychiatric nursing who wants to grow with the Authority
Transformation leadership skills
Trained as a Red Cross CPR/First Aid Instructor or willingness to obtain and maintain such training
Valid Alabama driver license
Proven ability to teach others nursing skills in a group setting is required
Knowledge of the application of QA/QI/PI processes in treatment settings is required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of special needs and behavioral characteristics of the seriously mentally ill adult and the substance use population
Knowledge and familiarity with psychotropic and neuroleptic drugs, their uses, and potential side effects
Assessment skills in the areas of physical and mental status
Knowledge and ability to properly administer psychotropic/neuroleptic drugs as ordered by prescribers is required
Knowledge of legal and ethical issues relative to confidentiality of consumer records and the ability to interpret and apply them within the scope of nursing responsibilities
Working knowledge of interviewing techniques and principles
Effective written and expressive communication skills
Ability and willingness to document activities and maintain records
Familiarity and competence in the use of electronic health records for medication administration and documentation of nursing care is required
