Summary
Provides administrative and secretarial support for the Health Information Management Department as needed to assist in the ongoing efficiency of departmental operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Near-visual acuity and hearing required for transcribing written, and dictated information. Motor coordination in order to operate word processing and other office equipment. Speech required in order to answer and direct telephone calls.Two years secretarial experience in health-care or a related field. Previous health information management experience or training preferred. Proficiency in the use of various office automation products- preferably Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, Access etc. Must have a good command of medical terminology, and the various medical specialties. Must be proficient in the operation of computers, calculators, dictating equipment, copiers and fax machines. Ability to work well under pressure with ongoing time constraints. Ability to make sound decisions independently and carries out job tasks with little supervision. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including rules of grammar and punctuation. Must type accurately a minimum of 50 words per minute.
