Job Description
The Facility Operations Manager is a working supervisory position coordinating the work of the Operations team and performing daily operations tasks. The successful candidate must be able to work alongside those they manage, appropriately delegate tasks and provide guidance and training.
The Facilities Department is responsible for creating conditions in all campus buildings needed to foster a safe and positive experience for guests, staff and volunteers. The Manager facilitates various day-to-day functions of the Garden, small maintenance tasks, and preparations for all private and public events. With guidance from the V.P of Facilities, this working position collaborates across Garden departments to ensure the department supports organizational goals.
Responsibilities
Supervisory
- Successfully manages Operations Assistant and Custodial Supervisor and strategically pair’s responsibilities and schedules that best accommodate the needs of the organization, leads by example and nurtures morale and optimism with team members.
- Resourcefully supports daily work, including interviewing, hiring, training, supervising and performance assessment, with the ability to, coach, counsel, and transition staff.
- Assemble and modify 7-day weekly work schedule for Operations Assistants based on requirements of scheduled programs, events and activities.
- Communicate effectively with workforce from diverse backgrounds.
- Ensures team members are trained and well versed in the Gardens values and safety protocols.
- Recommend and assist in implementation of policies and practices to improve workplace safety, efficiency and productivity.
Operations
- Work directly with the Facilities team in tracking and completing operational tasks and work order requests including, but not limited to:
- Set up/breakdown tents, tables, chairs, audio equipment, etc., for all ongoing Garden events, including private rentals and in-house functions.
- Collect and remove trash and litter from the buildings and grounds on a daily basis.
- Clean and maintain facilities and grounds daily including light custodial responsibilities. Heavy custodial cleaning activities when required.
- Coordinate with others to identify support requirements for community and fund-raising events during all operating hours – including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Attend and represent the department in cross-departmental meetings.
- Work with Facilities team to maintain the organization of storage areas and monitor supply inventory.
- Collaborate with Facilities Dept staff and Public Safety Coordinator to facilitate safety practices and emergency response.
Skills and Abilities
- Experience in banquet facility, hotel, convention center, or similar hospitality event venue is desired.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to use basic hand tools.
- Experience conducting simple troubleshooting with technology, lighting and audio-visual equipment.
- Read and understand product owner’s manuals and observe safety instructions.
- Modern office practices, methods and computer productivity applications.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate within and across teams.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and set priorities.
- Ability to interact with the public with an emphasis on the Garden’s core value of Hospitality
Physical Demands / Working Conditions
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Prolonged walking or standing and frequent bending, stooping, and reaching on a daily basis.
