POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: OPT Therapist – Counselor I

Position Summary:
Outpatient Therapists provide services designed to meet the clinically significant behavioral or psychological symptoms or patterns that have been identified as treatment needs of the recipient. This service is provided through scheduled therapeutic treatment sessions and may be provided to individuals, families or groups.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provides 1:1, group, and/or family counseling—as stipulated by specific referral—to individuals and families with emotional and/or behavioral issues.
- Provides assessment and clinical diagnostic services for persons entering or reentering the human services system, including assessment of strength and supports.
- Provides 1:1, group and/or family counseling as stipulated by specific referral to individuals and families with emotional and/or behavioral issues.
- Maintains clinical documentation according to Program and Medicaid standards regarding service provision, assessments and progress reports.
- Assists the individual in developing a person –centered service plan; updating at least every six months or as needed. The plan should be a strength based approach.
- Assists the individual to develop a crisis plan identifying social supports; coping skills and contact numbers. This should be reviewed at least every six months or as needed.
- Attends and participates in clinical supervisions and other trainings as required.
- Works cooperatively with peers, supervisors, referral sources, community stakeholders to help facilitate a team-based approach.
- Keeps Program Manager (Clinical Director /Program Director) informed of clinical and administrative issues related to service delivery.
- Provides documentation of all sentinel events through standard incident reporting procedures.
- Fulfills all duties utilizing a person or family centered approach, in line with ESUCP’s mission and philosophy.
- As required, acts as a lead clinician for persons served assisting with case management/monitoring responsibilities.
- Completes timesheets, documentation and other paperwork in a timely manner and accurate fashion according to internal, state and federal standards.
- Meets weekly billable expectations. Productivity is monitored and clinicians are updated on their progress weekly.
- Complete within 90 days trainings as required by agency and service model. Ongoing trainings required as needed.
- Drives for position on a regular basis as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility:
There are no supervisory responsibilities to this position, however, persons in this position may provide clinical consultation to other professionals within the organization.
Non-Essential Job Functions:
- Participates in ongoing Quality Improvement activities
- Provides high quality customer service, serving as a positive representative for the agency.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in a human service related field from an institution accredited by the USOE or CHEA required.
- Full or provisional license in appropriate discipline required – either LCSW; LPC; LMFT; LCAS; LCSW-A; LPC-A; LMFT-A.
- Must have at least one year’s fulltime, documented experience with the population served.
- Demonstrates high moral and ethical character and be free of any substantiated charges of abuse or neglect on the NC Healthcare Registry and OIG.
- Maintain valid insurance for personal vehicles utilized for work.
- Must have a valid, state appropriate, unrestricted Driver’s License with acceptable MVR.
Equipment Used:
- Standard office equipment: computer; fax; copier; telephone. Use of personal transportation.
Essential physical requirements:
- Must possess the visual acuity to develop written correspondence and determine accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of talking, hearing, sitting for long periods of time and performing repetitive motions, such as using a computer.
- Must be able to speak audibly, write legibly and perform repetitive motions such as typing.
- Must be able to drive a motor vehicle for work purposes.
Environment:
- Services are provided in a range of settings including: office, community settings such as the individual’s home, school but may be provided in any location.
