We are seeking an Outreach Coordinator to support the delivery of educational programming and volunteer activitieson the Chemung River and promote the Chemung River as an educational resource for schools and community organizations.
The primary responsibilities of the Outreach Coordinator will be supporting the delivery of educational programming on the Chemung River !!!!!!!
leading and providing administrative support for our existing field trip offerings, hikes, and elementary school programs; and designing new educational experiences for youth in the Chemung River watershed.
Schedule:
This is a part-time (20 hours/week) position set to begin on June 1, 2023.
The Outreach Coordinator will typically work Monday-Friday.
Due to the seasonal nature of the position, there will be periods with required Saturday or Sunday work.
Work hours are flexible, generally 9am – 12pm.
Occasional evenings and weekends are required.
The Outreach Coordinator will:
Share knowledge of the Chemung River, its history, and ecology through verbal presentations and social media posts.
Support major events at the Chemung River Friends, including the Guided Kayak River Tour in the summer and the Annual Meeting in the fall.
Assist the executive director as needed.
Teach and/or co-teach our outdoor field trips for K-12 students.
Supervise high school interns as they work in the field and the classroom.
Job Responsibilities:
Learn and follow the protocols to assist and lead our in-person field trips such as river cleanups, water quality monitoring, nature hikes, and science programs, and be able to deliver them to groups of up to 30-35 students.
Monitor the Education Program calendar and help with collection and delivery of materials such as waivers and post-trip feedback surveys.
Understand and convey the history and current challenges of the Chemung River and its surrounding communities.
Be reliable, communicative, enthusiastic, and committed to youth development. Be present, flexible, and ready to assist with programming.
Qualifications/Experience:
Passion for the mission, vision and values of the Chemung River Friends.
High school graduate/GED with at least 3 years of relevant work experience.
Familiarity with MS Office 365 (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Familiarity with the Chemung River and surrounding communities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to speak and write about a variety of topics
including local history, river ecology, urban development, and environmental justice.
Ability to travel to communities along the Chemung River including Elmira and Corning.
A driver’s license is preferred but not required—must have reliable transportation.
Ability to lift and carry objects up to 25lbs.
