PACT Community Organizer
Organizational Background:
PACT: People Acting in Community Together is a multi-faith, multi-racial grassroots organization that empowers ordinary people to win extraordinary victories. Using the PICO Organizing Model we recruit community members and developing their innate leadership skills in order to build power and create systemic change using the PICO Organizing Model. Our vision is to catalyze a movement by using our prophetic voice and work with key stakeholders to create pathways to shared prosperity and a society in which every person lives with dignity and respect.
PACT creates change on the local, state, and national levels. Our victories include co-founding the historic Santa Clara County Children’s Health Initiative; we have created high-quality new schools; expanded affordable housing, transportation, and community services; improved public safety and police-community relations, and more!
PACT has a diverse staff and a large base of clergy/faith grassroot leaders in 20+ member congregations across Santa Clara County. As a member of the Faith In Action National Network and statewide affiliate PICO California, we are intentional about building a multi-faith, multi-racial organization and putting faith at the center of our work.
Job Overview
An ideal community organizer candidate will be open to training and working effectively in a team environment. This person is able to work and communicate with multi-faith, multi-racial communities. The prime focus will be the development of faith-based volunteer leaders and clergy in Santa Clara County to build our power in order to bring about systemic change...
Responsibilities Include:
- Coordinate, and conduct listening sessions in local congregations. Identify community concerns and priorities.
- Train and develop clergy and community members of various faith traditions to develop teams and address concerns.
- Support Clergy and team leaders to define vision and goals for their teams with measurable impact, utilizing the PICO Organizing Model.
- Train leaders to act in the public arena, working alongside stakeholders to realize their vision.
- Complete 15 one-on-one relational meetings every week with community members.
- Work with Lead Organizer to implement personal professional development plan.
- Work effectively on staff to support of PACT organization-wide campaigns related to housing, immigration, public safety/criminal justice, education, voter engagement, and other community issues.
- Participate in the PICO National Network’s state and national policy campaigns.
- Participate in PACT’s communications, fundraising, and organizational development efforts.
- Meet regularly with organizers to shadow, plan and support broader organizational efforts.
- Provide reports, evaluate, plan, create materials as needed to move team organizing efforts forward.
- Be open to traveling and receiving training outside Santa Clara County.
Skills and Experience:
- BA degree, or equivalent work experience.
- 2-3 years of community organizing experience (congregation-based, labor, or other)
- Fearless desire to learn and develop personal innate leadership skills.
- Strong ability to work and support fellow staff members in an unstructured environment.
- Experience working in diverse, multi-faith, multi-racial, and immigrant communities
- Bilingual: English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Hindi
- Interpersonal and relational skills and curiosity about people
- Experience using online and social media tools
Compensation and Benefits:
- A Full-time position
- $57,000 + (Depending on Experience)
- Benefits include medical, dental, vision, paid holidays, sick time, 401K plan
