SALARY RANGE: $54,761- $82,141/Annually SALARY GRADE: 22 SUMMARY Under general direction of the Parks and Open Space Superintendent and in collaboration with the Parks Maintenance Manager and the Golf Course Superintendent, this position performs a comprehensive corrective and preventative maintenance program for the Parks, Open Space and Golf fleet and equipment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned. · Performs a comprehensive corrective and preventative maintenance program. This program includes the repair and maintenance of a variety of parks, open space and/or golf course mowing and maintenance equipment, keeping records of costs, parts, and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service. · Properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the area supervisor. · Oversees assigned shop area maintenance. Maintains the shop(s) environment, tools and equipment. Places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building. · Inspect, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various parks, open space and/or golf maintenance equipment, including, diesel, electric and gasoline powered trucks, utility carts, trenchers, sweepers, rollers, mowers, tractors, skid steers, trailers, a variety of mowers, chemical spray equipment and various hand tools. · Grinds, sharpens and adjusts cutting units and blades on specialized equipment. · Instructs and/or trains parks, open space and golf workers regarding preventative maintenance and the proper cleaning, basic maintenance and safe operation of equipment. · Manages inventory cost control system, assuring adequate repair parts in inventory. Makes recommendations to the supervisor for equipment repair and maintenance budgets, and recommendations for the purchase of new equipment. Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work based on the supervisor's needs. · Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventive maintenance for all equipment. Maintains a preventive maintenance program within budget on all equipment, and purchases repair parts and replacement supplies. · Regularly checks equipment in the field for performance paying particular attention to quality of cut; makes emergency repairs to equipment in the field, and services or supervises servicing of equipment prior to use. · May regulate employees' tasks and use of equipment in absence of supervisor, if needed, and performs other duties as directed by the supervisor. Opens and closes maintenance facility as needed. · Performs snow removal duties as assigned. · Participates in parks, forestry and golf course maintenance tasks as needed. · May be assigned to research, order or pick up equipment supplies as needed. · May be required to work overtime. Works weekends and holidays as needed. · Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES · Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the Town of Frederick and the department. · Knowledge of the Department's and Division's Rules and Regulations. · Knowledge of tools, equipment, and procedures used in the maintenance and repair of parks, forestry, and golf course equipment. · Knowledge of applicable safety practices and procedures. · Knowledge of basic computer operation with related software. · Skill in the use and upkeep of tools and equipment related to maintenance and repair of parks, forestry, and golf equipment, facilities, and systems. · Skill in dealing tactfully and effectively with the public. · Skill in the safe and lawful operation of all required equipment necessary to perform the job. · Ability to diagnose mechanical difficulties. · Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the functions of the position. · Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment and software including word processing, data base management, spreadsheet applications and electronic mail. · Ability to read detailed instructions, diagrams, and schematics. · Ability to work well and communicate with the public and others. · Ability to train and lead maintenance employees in normal maintenance operations, as well as the safe, proper operation of specialized maintenance equipment. · Ability to work as a team member. · Ability to take direction from others. · Ability to resolve problems. · Ability to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions, including heat, cold, precipitation, and wind. · Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, or flexible schedules. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING · High school diploma, GED or equivalent. · Obtain Certified Turf Equipment Manager designation from the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America within 2 years of hire. · At least two years' previous experience maintaining golf course or landscape maintenance equipment required. · Experience in welding and reel maintenance is preferred. · Previous experience in golf course maintenance is preferred but not required. This position is mostly heavy work; exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The employee is required to have close visual acuity. The employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin.
