What is a Job Coach?
Our job coaches work with people with intellectual or developmental disabilities to promote independence through employment. Whether it's working for a local school or grocery store, or continuing their own micro-enterprise, you'll help teach them basic employment skills, encourage them in the work they're doing, and help support them when they're in need.
FAQ:
What is the personnel ratio? Each job coach has a case load of individuals that they work with 1:1.
Is there training available? Yes! NeMCMHA offers 100% paid training.
Do I need a CNA license in order to apply? No! We do encourage people with experience to apply, but no license is required.
LOCATION:
- This posting takes place on-site. Due to the nature of the work, remote employment is currently unavailable for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
- Knowledge of developmental disabilities and mental illness preferred.
- Must possess ability to communicate effectively with consumers, families, providers, and the business community.
- Good organization, communication and writing skills.
Other:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record as determined by the agency.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a job coach you will:
- Work with consumers at their place of employment to teach appropriate work behavior, social skills and to insure quality job performance.
- Assist with consumer’s micro enterprise, which includes marketing products.
- Be involved in "person-centered” planning meetings with consumers and will play an integral role in assisting consumers with their dreams, desires, and needs related to community employment.
- Serve as a liaison with employers and CMH employment staff.
- Insure consumer safety and report any safety concerns to the consumer’s employer, employment services staff.
- Facilitate natural supports in the work place and community.
- Show the ability to write a task analysis/job description and provide regular updates on job tasks to employment service staff.
- Assist with reasonable job accommodations when necessary.
- Provide community support services as necessary to facilitate consumer and scheduling needs.
