Job Description
Kitchen Pastry Chef
The Pastry Chef will efficiently prepare and cook food according to menu specifications.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Create and prepare all baked goods and pastry items required for the Crossroads Cafe, the Red House Tavern, and the Events space.
- Approaches all encounters with guests and team members in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner.
- Makes safety and security a top priority. Is completely trained in competent in all emergency procedures and be ready to take charge in an emergency. Is constantly aware of potential security threats and models If You See Something, Say Something by notifying the Manager on Duty or any other Manager.
- Always alert to hazards anywhere observed in the hotel and takes personal responsibility to ensure they are corrected.
- Comes up with recipes from scratch.
- Plans the menu of desserts and pastry to complement savory items.
- Oversees Bakers and other staff members as needed.
- Maintains up to date knowledge about pastry arts and ingredients.
- Oversees Night Houseperson in his or her tasks.
- Maintains overall sanitation, health, cleanliness, and safety standards for food preparation areas, cooking services, and dishes and utensils.
- Maintains regular attendance in compliance with the hotels standards, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
- Wears appropriate brand required uniform and name tag during all scheduled shifts.
- Performs all other duties assigned from time to time.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic understanding of or ability to learn basic sanitation and regulations for workplace safety.
- Basic understanding of or ability to learn food-handling techniques, preparation, and cooking procedures.
- Proven experience in working as a Baker or Pastry Chef.
- Able to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
- Good knowledge of pastry arts and ingredients.
- Confident culinary techniques and skills.
- Diligent and meticulous. Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Good sense of planning and preparation.
- Ability to work efficiently and quickly.
- Must be able to work well as part of a team.
- Must be able to work well under pressure.
- Ability to maintain personal cleanliness.
Education and Experience:
- High school or vocational school coursework in kitchen basics, such as food safety, preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work late nights and holidays.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Physically able to stand for long hours in a hot kitchen.
