Payroll Staff Accountant
Job description
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for general accounting tasks regarding payroll and benefits, selected accounts receivable, and selected accounts payable. Also responsible for selected bank account reconciliations. Interfaces with auditors, vendors, property management and all levels of Agency staff.
JOB RELATED DUTIES – ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Follow all Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable procedures and any new accounting procedures put in place.
- Accurately process bi-weekly payroll, mileage reimbursement.
- Analyze payroll outputs to ensure proper coding, payments and deductions for taxes, benefits, garnishments, and reporting.
- Interface with human resources to ensure an efficient and effective process for all Paycom inputs and outputs.
- Record the bi-weekly payroll in the General Ledger, maintain GL code mapping.
- Process bi-weekly 401k contributions.
- Prepare monthly payroll accrual.
- Prepare 401k profit sharing plan for the audits.
- Review reporting and analysis for Workers Compensation insurance and audit.
- Prepare monthly landlord lease payments.
- Prepare Suffolk County monthly payroll report.
- Process monthly Suffolk and Dutchess County Billing.
- Enter accounts receivable into the sub-ledger and enter subsequent payments to clear receivables.
- Prepare Homeownership transactions and account reconciliations.
- Verify accounts payable invoice payment approvals, code invoices and enter accounts payable into the sub-ledger.
- Prepare checks for Controller/CFO review and signature.
- Approve company checks for payment processing with Positive Pay for the operating account.
- Perform the bank reconciliations for selected bank accounts.
- Assist upper management with audits, miscellaneous projects, and department goals.
Salary: $65,000
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education: A minimum of a BS degree in accounting
Experience: 2 to 4 years of general accounting experience. Payroll experience is required. Paycom experience preferred.
Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Computer Skills: Basic competency in MS Office and Accounting Software
Math Skills: Must be excellent.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to prioritize, make appropriate decisions and judgment calls.
Other Skills: Ability to work independently or as part of a team, be highly organized, assume responsibility, work well under pressure, meet deadlines, multitask, be flexible, and maintain a high level of attention to details. Must be even-tempered, have good negotiation skills, and the ability to meet unexpected deadlines.
