Under the general supervision of the Apothecary Manager, the Apothecary Technician supervises all apothecary services. This multifaceted job gives individuals the opportunity to collaborate with all departments in the Center in order to provide the best patient care.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviews physician medication orders for appropriateness, correct dosing, allergies, contraindication, interactions, etc.
- Assists customers with purchases.
- Compounds sterile and non-sterile prescriptions.
- Assists in patient/family drug education counseling to assure adequate knowledge by patient/family of drugs prescribed.
- Assists in development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting on effectiveness of policies and procedures.
- Participates on committees, workgroups etc., to achieve communication of activities and goals of hospital to staff and patients.
- Operates cash register, including balancing.
- Maintains shelf labels and assists with inventory.
- Fills and ships homecare supplies.
- Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of the Apothecary and storeroom.

- Previous retail pharmacy experience (preferred)

- Cash register experience

- Must have excellent organizational skills.
- Good Verbal and written communication skills, and attention to details necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- May involve walking, standing, or kneeling for brief or extended periods of time.
- Exerting up to 15 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
