JOB SUMMARY: Functions as an integral member of the laboratory by performing venipunctures and clerical tasks as an aide to the Physicians Practice. Demonstrates knowledge of test procedures, equipment and computer skills. Effective, professional, courteous, informative communication skills. Recognizes problems; follows safety guidelines; assists with training and information systems. Must demonstrate knowledge life span growth/development and interprets data to identify age-appropriate service and special needs. Ensures adherence to the Corporate Compliance Program. Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school graduate required. Completion of phlebotomy training program with certification preferred
Experience: Must have 120 clinical hrs with minimum of 100 successful venipunctures/25 successful skin punctures, observation of 5 arterial punctures, lab orientation and didactic training including: anatomy/physiology of circulatory system, specimen collection/equipment, capillary/venipuncture techniques, blood clotting mechanism, specimen processing/handling, lab operations, isolation techniques, complications and medical lab ethics and.
License/Registration: Phlebotomy certification preferred
Other: Must prioritize work to maintain maximum efficiency and standard of care; be effective and functional team player exhibiting loyalty and support for the laboratory. Professionalism, integrity, and effective interactions with customers is expected. Must adhere to hospital and departmental policy regarding confidentiality of patient information.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform venipunctures and processing of specimens, clerical tasks (keying, answering phone, fax machine, data management, etc.)
- Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities to use needles, blood collection system, syringes, capillary supplies, etc.
- Demonstrate knowledge and ability required for prioritization//organization f requests, preparing patient for procedures, recognizing complications/intervention, venous blood collection, capillary collection, bleeding time
- Effective professional, courteous, informative communication skills
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires range of motion within functional limits. Frequent bending from waist, occasional stooping, stretching, kneeling, squatting. Occasionally standing/walking, occasional sitting. Functional vision and hearing, eye-hand coordination, and manual dexterity
