Job description
Darigold is seeking a skilled and motivated Plant Engineer to be a part of Darigold’s Seattle / Rainier St. team. The Plant Engineer must possess the desire and ability to maintain and repair all plant equipment. As a member of the Rainier team the Plant Engineer will be a partner in the Operations Division. The Plant Engineer’s role is to maintain and repair plant machinery and assist with special projects.
- Union shop – Union is Local 302
- Shift/job is on a bid basis. Qualifications rule (City of Seattle Refrigeration & Boiler License) followed by seniority.
- No guarantee of nights vs days.
- Shifts on days are 4 AM – 2:30 PM or 6 AM – 4:30 PM, and shifts on nights are 4 PM – 2:30 AM or 6 PM – 4:30 AM.
- Must have City of Seattle Refrigeration & 3rd Grade Steam Engineers License in order to be eligible for 100% of scale.
- 100% of scale is currently $38.60.
- The company currently contributes $6.35 / hr. to pension for hours worked.
This position will be a member of the engineering team at Darigold – Rainier Ave., Seattle. This position is responsible for maintaining the plant equipment and machinery used for dairy processing. This position will also construct and install components necessary to establish the efficient operation of plant equipment and machinery.
What You Will Do
- Read and understand diagrams, schematics, operation manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications regarding machinery and mechanical equipment.
- Observe and listen to machines and other devices while they are in operation to locate causes of trouble.
- Dismantle machines and equipment to gain access and remove or replace defective parts.
- Assemble and start machines and other devices to test their operation.
- Perform troubleshooting procedures on electrical motors and fuses. Replace defective wiring, burnt fuses, worn switches, and electrical motor parts, and repair electronic fixtures.
- Perform procedures to change the rotation on three-phase motors.
- Machine worn or new metal parts using drill presses, grinders, and other machine tools.
- Troubleshoot gas and oil-fired water tube boilers.
- Lubricate and clean parts and perform other preventative maintenance such as changing filters, belts, oil, tightening belts, etc.
- Operate forklifts.
- Rebuild pumps, seals, and air valves.
- Perform sanitary welding on stainless steel.
- Keep control of the wastewater system.
- Do daily rounds, which include monitoring steam, air, and cooling. Also, boiler safety tests and water chemistry procedures.
- Troubleshoot anhydrous ammonia systems and pump-out procedures.
What You Bring
- Know the name and location of all equipment in the plant.
- Know where all the main electrical disconnects are located and how to reset ground fault indicators.
- Know the product flow in the plant and how to follow schematics.
- Know the operation of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment. Be able to perform disassembly/reassembly of gearboxes.
- Know and comply with all lock-out/tag-out procedures.
- Know and comply with all confined space procedures. Be able to weld black iron.
- Know the location of shut-offs for air, gas, ammonia, and steam.
- Be able to effectively communicate with supervisors and co-workers.
- Must be a qualified and experienced industrial mechanic.
Equipment, Machines, and Vehicles operated:
Drill presses, grinders, welding equipment, wheeled carts, hand trucks, forklift, come-a-longs, hoists, man-lift, saws, and cutting torches.
Tools used:
Machine tools, hand tools, filters, belts, operation manuals, chain falls, ladders, electric and pneumatic hand tools, precisions measuring, and testing instruments.
Nice To Have's:
- Minimum 3-5 years of manufacturing maintenance or related experience
- Formal education in a related field preferred
