Private Banking Team Leader Job Summary
The Private Banking Team Leader is responsible for leading and directing the business development of Westfield Bank’s Private Bankers through private banking loans and deposit services for assigned market areas. They are also responsible to for representing Westfield Bank to internal/external customers and prospects for the purpose of developing both consumer loan and deposit services. In addition, the role serves as the primary client advisor to optimize client relationships, provide pertinent financial advice, and meet client needs by positioning and selling an array of financial products and services. Develops and maintains private banking criteria in a manner that results in profitable customer relationships.


Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)
1. Leads and directs the development of Westfield Bank’s Private Bankers through private banking loans and deposit services for assigned market areas.
2. Works with Consumer Banking Leader to develop and implement the strategic plan for private banking loans and deposit growth within designated market.
3. Develop and Implement Deposit Growth and Pricing Strategies for Westfield Bank Private Banking.
4. Creates and develops flexible private banking solutions and products for prospects and customers.
5. Represents Westfield Bank to potential internal/external customers and prospects for the purpose of developing both consumer loan and deposit services. Lending authority is typically up to $250,000.
6. Performs talent management responsibilities including employee selection, performance management, coaching, and development. Manages priorities and workload distribution, and removes barriers that impede progress. Completes all personnel, salary administration, and reporting duties. Performs operational responsibilities that drive team performance including planning, execution, process improvement and best-practice sharing.
7. Assists private banking officers with both screening and underwriting decisions.
8. Utilizes CRM system to track activity and consumer relationships.
9. Develops new personal clients (typically focused on high-net-worth individuals) for the bank by prospecting for eligible private banking clients and selling them on Westfield Bank’s value proposition.
10. Develops strategic relationships with all Westfield lines of business in order to effectively refer business and leverage partnerships to deepen and enrich the client experience (e.g. Mortgage, Retail, Commercial, Agency).
11. Networks within the business/civic communities to create new sales and business development opportunities for the full range of Westfield Bank services.
12. Creates and develops flexible private banking solutions and products for prospects and customers.
13. Uses prior banking/business experience and understanding of cash flow to analyze and recommend loan requests and set loan pricing options.
14. Understands, respects, and complies with all laws, rules and regulations which govern Banking institutions.
15. Presents financial solutions that result in a profitable banking relationship that complies with all bank policies and standards.
16. Makes calls on consumer, business and prospective clients independently.
17. May accompany market leaders, commercial and mortgage lenders on client visits.
18. May resolve difficult client situations involving the negotiation of pricing and collection of delinquent loans, etc.
19. Continually looks for opportunities to proactively upgrade and improve Bank administrative processes, technology, automation and controls.
20. Maintains awareness, understanding and compliance with the Bank's internal policies and procedures, laws and regulations appropriate for this position.
21. Provides assistance in response to regulatory and internal/external audit requests.
22. Travels as needed in order to perform other essential functions.


Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)
1. 7+ years of relevant private banking or related field within financial services working with High Net individuals and families.
2. 5 or more years’ leadership experience.
3. Oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills resulting in the ability to interact with customers, employees, and all levels of management.
4. Valid driver’s license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.
5. Must display a high level of initiative via an entrepreneurial spirit.
6. Ability to build customer relationships.
7. Ability to be detail oriented and ability to multi-task.
8. Strong financial/banking acumen, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
9. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office (Excel, Word) or other transferable software packages.
10. As defined by the S.A.F.E. Act, must register as a Mortgage Loan Originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) and maintain the unique identifying registration number.
11. Bachelor’s degree or demonstrated commensurate experience.

  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing and working on a computer for extended periods of time).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as: telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Ability to operate an automobile within the parameters of the driving policy.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
