COMPENSATION: $26.44 / hourly

JOB BRIEF:


California Trout is seeking to fill a Project Coordinator part-time or full time position for the Ventura and Santa Barbara County area. The Santa Clara River Steelhead Coalition (Coalition) was formed over a decade ago to accelerate endangered Southern steelhead recovery by providing a forum for conservation groups and resource agencies working on watershed restoration projects in the region to interact. The Project Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day administration and management of this ongoing Coalition and the expansion into the Santa Ynez watershed. The Project Coordinator will coordinate, manage, plan and implement Coalition activities and be responsible for deliverables and reporting. . The Project Coordinator will focus primarily on building capacity for watershed restoration projects, community engagement, and expanding participation within the Coalition. The Project Coordinator home office will be Ventura, California within hybrid remote work from home. This position will require frequent travel and public outreach around Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.


PROJECT COORDINATOR RESPONSIBILITIES


The successful candidate will collaborate with regional partners to build Coalition capacity, submit grants to help fund watershed restoration projects, perform grant management, conduct public outreach, and recruit new coalition members. The position requires the effective communication of species recovery goals, strategies and successes to a broad audience. The Project Coordinator’s primary responsibility will be the management and administration of the present Coalition and expansion of the group into the Santa Ynez Basin. This position requires frequent contact and interaction with public stakeholders, non-profits, non-government organizations, federal, state, county, Tribal, and other agencies as needed. The Project Coordinator plays a vital role in regional conservation and recovery effort through designing and setting restoration goals and timelines, grant proposal writing and administration, resource planning comment letter submission, budget tracking and reporting, and community engagement. Project Coordinator will build capacity by identifying restoration opportunities with partners and supporting the grant writing process. They will build public support and expand capacity for the Coalition, Southern steelhead restoration and conservation through tabling public events, providing presentations to community stakeholders, educational presentation to K-12 groups, etc.

SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE:


  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience, including ability to motivate, lead, set objectives, and manage performance and evaluations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate the Coalition’s purpose, complex conservation issues, and California Trout’s mission and goals to a wide range of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform strategic planning; experience designing, implementing and directing coalition activities, setting deadlines and ensuring program accountability and legal compliance.
  • Experience working with state/federal agencies and knowledge of government procedures, and of federal and state laws that affect California’s fisheries and watersheds
  • Working knowledge of computers and software including MS Office Suite, Abode Creative Cloud, and/or GIS preferable.
  • Experience in leading field crews, planning and coordinating scientific data collection and analysis, and report writing.
  • Detail-oriented organization and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently on day-to-day activities to carry out project tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • BA/BS degree in biology, fisheries, hydrology, natural resource science or related planning or natural resources field.
  • 2-5 years’ experience managing various aspects of community organizations, public coalitions, restoration projects, including strategic planning, community engagement, grant management, contract and budget management, subcontractor management, timelines and deliverables.
