Research Specialist employees help to develop, design, and conduct one or more small to moderately complex research projects in line with plans. They report to one or more faculty members or senior research personnel, operate with a degree of independence, and help improve research approach and methods based on knowledge and experience. They are distinguished from Research Coordinator employees by their knowledge and ability to use a variety of research techniques, and exercise independent decision-making in their use. They may collaborate in the writing and publication process. They may help present findings at conferences and meetings.

The Early Social Development Lab at the University of Virginia’s Department of Psychology is seeking a Project Coordinator to assist with the management of a cross-cultural study (in U.S. and India) of the development and socialization of gratitude among preschool- and early school-age children. The Project Coordinator will be based at the Early Social Development Lab but will assist with organizing, managing, and coordinating research efforts across the two research sites.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and training undergraduate research assistants and part time staff
  • Organizing and leading research discussion meetings, including with the collaborating lab in India
  • Coordinating across sites on research protocols and training
  • Quality control on study procedures and data collection at both sites
  • Assisting with recruitment of participants
  • Tracking and corresponding with families and schools
  • Conducting interviews and collecting data according to procedures
  • Supporting data analysis and summarizing of results
  • Supporting the preparation of conference presentations and manuscripts for publication
  • Maintaining research records
  • Assisting with grant proposals
  • Assisting senior researchers by completing tasks that support research operations
  • Helping create website associated with research project
  • Scheduling and booking facilities
  • May purchase supplies via Dept central purchasing
  • Adhering to regulatory research guidelines in daily work
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned

This full-time position will remain open until filled.

This is a restricted position contingent on continued funding.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree in related field.
Experience: None.
Licensure: None.

Preferred Experience: Education: A B.A. or B.S. in Psychology or Child Development is preferred.

Experience working with children and families, cross-cultural research, using statistical software, complex research designs, coding observational data, and conducting literature searches preferred."

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
