Public Health Disease Intervention Specialist
Job description
Position is with the Communicable Disease Branch and based in our Charlotte Regional Field Services Office in Mecklenburg County. The incumbent in this position will have multi-county responsibilities which include:
Performing work efforts to control the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV infection.- Conducting personal interviews to obtain case related information.
- Explaining the disease process, treatment, prevention and legal requirements, analyzes epidemiological information to determine need and priority for follow-up activities.
- Providing education, consultation, and technical assistance to local health departments and private providers on interview techniques, records, treatment procedures, and quality control.
- Performing phlebotomy procedures on suspected cases.
- Use of their personal vehicle is required to travel.
- Establishing rapport and effective communications with clients and stakeholders from diverse cultures, races, ethnicities, and lived experiences.

The Communicable Disease Branch of the Division of Public Health primarily deals with infectious diseases that are reportable by law to the state health department, as well as a few other communicable diseases of public health significance, such as influenza, norovirus infection and certain healthcare-associated infections.

- Experience and efficiency entering data entry into large database systems.
- Experience with community engagement, including work with faith-based organizations.
- Experience providing health related services, including the provision of health education or testing results.
- Ability to drive a vehicle.
- Ability to work independently in non-handicapped accessible areas.
Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
