General Definition

PVJOBS is operating Hatch Young Adult 2.0 Program, which is a multi-level strategy to reduce community violence and improve the long-term labor market prospect of at-risk youth, ages 18-25. This is a full-time position based in Los Angeles and an ideal opportunity for someone with a passion for assisting our community. The Case Manager/Coach, under the supervision of the Program Manager, will be responsible for addressing what is needed in order for the participant to reach the destination they have mapped on their pathway. The Case Manager/Coach provides a comprehensive, coordinated structure for management of the complex sets of services juvenile and adult offenders must navigate. Coaches develop a deep understanding of the individual which enables continuity for the participant. In addition, the Coach assists community supervision officers in serving offenders returning to the community as well as serve as an advocate, resource, and mentor for program participants.

Job Coach, essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Outreach to 100 individuals and enrollment of 50 per year.
  • Outreaching to supervision officers; community-based organizations and educational facilities to recruit program participants;
  • Providing intake and assessment for at-risk youth.
  • Utilizing evidence-based psychosocial and risk assessment tools to identify risk level and prioritize the need for service;
  • Identifying specific gaps in skill attainment and uncovering any additional barriers;
  • Developing Individual Career Development Plans with young adult participants that provide an outline of what the participant will accomplish through HYA 2.0, carefully detailing goals, action steps, and a timeline for completion;
  • Mapping out plans to identify educational goals for achieving a High School diploma, GED, or alternative education certificates, in addition to long term goals such as continuing education, vocational training and/or training programs leading to industry accredited certifications;
  • Planning community engagement, mentoring, and career exploration activities;
  • Serving as a single point of contact that young adult participants can rely upon to address their concerns and challenges, problem-solving with them, as well as help them access additional services;
  • Providing one-on-one career coaching;
  • Outreach to local employers to develop employment opportunities for participants.
  • Utilizing interest/aptitude assessments and strengths inventories to increase self-awareness and provide direction for the young adult participant;
  • Scheduling experiential learning projects that include community service, internships, and summer employment;
  • Providing continuous support for workforce integration for the young adult participant, addressing skills-building and soft skills training;
  • Facilitating weekly meetings with the internship supervisor and/or employer at the host organization to ensure a positive work experience;
  • Coordinating restorative justice projects for the young adult participants allowing them to give something back to their neighborhood to “make up” for their criminal offenses in a way that is not punitive but positive;
  • Assisting community supervision officers in serving young adult offenders returning to the community;
  • Serving as an advocate, resource, and mentor for the program participants;
  • Working with the young adult participant and community partners to manage and ensure seamless service.

Minimum Skills/Qualifications

  • Any combination of education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Education, Communications, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work or similar.
  • Pass a background check for entry onto Federal, State, and Local Juvenile Justice Facilities.
  • Career counseling or health and wellness coaching experience strongly preferred.
  • Non-Profit experience preferred
  • Gang intervention or criminal justice experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and professional relations required
  • Must have a valid Class C driver’s license, insurance, and a registered vehicle, daily travel is required (Mileage will be reimbursed)

Compensation: Full-time $45,000-$51,000 (DOE)
