JOB DESCRIPTION-QUALIFIED MEDICATION AIDE

Summary: Assist the professional nursing staff in assuring that standards of resident care, comfort and safety are maintained by administering medications and treatments. Will supervise C.N.A.’s, providing direction and assignments. Under the direct supervision of the Nursing Supervisor, responsible to the Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Able to follow or communicate instructions.
• Possession of current certificate as a Qualified Medicine Aide, L.P.N., or R.N. by the State of Indiana.
• Able to work flexible hours.
• Ability to pass the physical examination required at employment.
• Will possess leadership, good judgment and decision making abilities.
• Will be customer service focused.
• Must be able to react appropriately in emergency situations.

TASK LIST:

• Preparation and administration of the following medications:
• Oral medications
• PRN medications
• Nasal medications
• Rectal medications
• Eye medications
• Ear medications
• Topical medications
• May NOT give injectable medications
• Maintain an accurate record of all medications and treatments given.
• Daily supervision of nursing assistants.
• Find replacements for call-ins

• Participate in Service Plan Meetings
• Attend at least twelve medication inservices each year.
• Note resident changes with appropriate interaction with residents, families and Supervisor so physician can be notifies of changes.
• Ability to complete appropriate interaction with residents, families and health team members.
• Participate in nursing staff meetings when scheduled.
• Document all pertinent information accurately on the resident nursing notes.
• Complete all assigned work tasks and perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
• Tasks that may involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue.
• Other duties as assigned.
