Position Summary

The Quality Assurance Supervisor will provide assistance to the Quality Assurance and Food Safety Manager in the areas of supervision, technical assistance and scheduling to quality technicians, sanitation members and custodial members at Firebaugh facility. This position will assist the Quality Assurance and Food Safety Manager in all aspects of food safety and quality including but not limited to Food Safety Modernization Act- Food Safety Plan & British Retail Consortium compliances audits, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point program evaluation, Good Manufacturing Practices training, safety training, sanitation evaluation, purchasing supplies, working with operations personnel on quality and safety issues, customer complaints, implementing policies and procedures and evaluating new equipment installation or repair.

Position Responsibilities

  • Supervision of the lab, sanitation, and custodial personnel at Firebaugh facility, ensure department is properly staffed.
  • Ensure test results are precise and accurate.
  • Assist the Quality Assurance Manager to verify compliance with Corporate Quality policies and procedures.
  • Create, edit, and update procedures and policies to comply with Food Safety Modernization Act and British Retail Consortium regulations.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to lab, sanitation, and custodial members.
  • Monitor and verify the Food Safety Plan's Critical Control Points & Control Points.
  • Assist the Manager with updating Food Safety Plan and quality procedures.
  • Coordinate and conduct quality, food safety and safety trainings under the direction of the Manager.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and internal audits as required.
  • Conduct Behavioral Observations for safety compliance.
  • Work with operations personnel on quality and safety issues.
  • Verify operations control systems are functional and being followed, document and maintain correction actions as needed.
  • Place product on hold or release as needed. Partner with Manager to communicate to appropriate parties.
  • Ensure product traceability and mock recall coordination.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment in good working order and standardized to ensure optimal performance.
  • Ensure good laboratory practices are followed and documented.
  • Generate and distribute Product Safety & Quality reports as needed.
  • Assist with annual British Retail Consortium and customer audits.
  • Assist in Customer complaints investigation, root cause analysis and corrective action coordination.
  • Inventory and order QA Department related supplies as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/ Education/Experience/Skills:

  • B.S. degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Chemistry, or related field is required.
  • Three (3) years' experience in Food Industry with one (1) year supervisory or lead experience is required.
  • Knowledge of laboratory activities to include microbiological testing not limited to Statistical Process Control, Coliforms/E.coli, Salmonella, Listeria, Yeast and Mold, and analytical testing to include moisture, color is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of Good Sanitation Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices is required.
  • Food Safety Modernization Act- Preventive Controls Qualified Individual training course certified is preferred.
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point certification is preferred.
  • In depth knowledge of British Retail Consortium gap analysis and certification is required.
  • High level of competency with manufacturing, inventory, and traceability systems with advanced skills in SAP and PC use including spreadsheets and database experience is required.
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control and statistical analysis is required.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written are required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment in required.
  • Willingness to work alternate shifts is required.

The pay for this role in the state of CA ranges from $76,173 - $99,024 and is based on the position responsibilities and geographic location. Actual pay within this range may be determined based on candidate's experience, qualifications and/or other determining factors.
