Medgene is seeking to hire an R&D Bacteriology Associate Scientist for our rapidly growing business and product pipeline.

Purpose:

Perform daily operations in the bacterial antigen production laboratory as part of the Bacterial Prescription Platform.

Distinguishing Feature:

The R&D Associate Scientist is responsible for development and optimization of bacterial culture for the purpose of producing antigen. Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and aseptic techniques are preferred. Previous experience culturing E. Coli to produce antigen is preferred. The position requires the ability to read and understand standard operating procedures and be able to execute the procedures to ensure compliance with CVB regulations. Good documentation practices are required.

Functions:

• Assist in development and optimization of bacterial culture methods for production of antigen including scale up of antigen production.
• Writing of procedures for bacterial culture and assisting in transfer of procedures to the production facility.
• Ensures quality production of bacterial antigen for use in R&D studies.
• Read and understand SOPs and Protocols for the Bacterial Platform.
• Maintains records detailing adherence to established policies.
• Maintains appropriate records commensurate with CVB guidelines.
• Maintenance of all laboratory equipment, facility, and standards within the Bacterial Platform.
• Ensure compliance with aseptic procedures and cleaning schedules.
• Performs other work as assigned.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports directly to the Bacteriology Manager. May take direction from Senior Bacteriology staff.

Challenges and Problems:

Challenged to develop and transfer bacterial culture methods to the production facility in a timely manner. Assist with different problems such as mechanical/equipment failure, contamination, poorly growing cultures, or inactivation issues. Keeping of detailed records subject to Audit by the Regulatory and Compliance and Quality Assurance, will be an absolute necessity.

Decision-Making Authority

Decisions will be made in conjunction with senior Bacteriology team.

Contact with Others:

Daily contact with R&D, Manufacturing, QA, and QC personnel. Limited contact with Regulatory, Sales and Marketing, personnel.

Working Conditions:

Potential for exposure to human and animal pathogens, including blood-borne pathogens. Exposure to infectious agents, dangerous chemicals, high-voltage equipment, toxic fumes, temperature extremes, and potential mutagens.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

• Aseptic Techniques and good laboratory practices.
• Good Documentation Practices.
• Microbiology background is preferred.
• Experience with bacterial culture is preferred.
• Experience with bioreactors is preferred.

• Perform various bacterial growth methods.
• Develop and follow specific procedures.
• Work safely with infectious materials and specimens.
