Ready Mix Loader Operator / Plant Operator
Job description
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Loader Operator / Plant Operator to join our Ready-Mix Concrete team in Venice, FL / Nokomis, FL. This is an hourly position reporting directly to the Plant Supervisor. The primary responsibility of this position is to safely load material from stockpiles and maintain the plant/yard appropriately with the ability to batch concrete.
Job Duties:
- Safely operate the site Loader in moving materials, and ensuring materials are properly stored.
- Ensure all irrigation systems are operable & appropriately hydrating the various aggregates.
- Ensure plant/yard housekeeping is appropriate to include shoveling, sweeping, and washing down the yard frequently.
- Ensure all appropriate EPA guidelines are followed and yard up to appropriate regulatory standards.
- Assist Plant Supervisor with monthly inventory.
- With direction from Plant Supervisor, coordinate the traffic flow of the yard.
- Ensure haulers are placing materials in appropriate areas.
- Ensure haulers are rendering tickets in the batch house.
- Assist maintenance team with plant repairs.
- Must be able to travel within delivery area to other plant locations.
- Ensure plant bins are fully loaded with appropriate materials during batching hours of operation.
- Properly maintain the loader, i.e., grease all fittings, keep fuel level full, perform daily mechanical inspections, report issues.
- Adjusts controls for required mixture of the materials.
- Operates controls that admit materials separately from storage hoppers or mixing bins.
- Observes indicator that show when proper amount of materials have been made.
- Discharges materials from bin into truck or other carrier or mixer. Performs other related duties. Assists in maintenance and report of plant equipment. May perform other related duties.
- Answers telephone, radio, and takes and inputs orders.

Required Skills & Abilities
- Must possess the consistent ability to work overtime (nights & weekends).
- Must be able to work in an environment where you may be exposed to extremes of hot or cold weather.
- Job requires the following: climbing, stooping, bending, squatting, lifting, stretching, pushing, pulling, vibration, twisting, kneeling, standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and working at heights of 50-80 feet.
- Requires occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Must possess a current Class B Commercial Driver License in good standing.
- Must be willing and able to driver to different plants sites based upon business needs.
- Basic understanding of windows-based operations / computer skills.
- Must have demonstrated the ability to perform with minimal supervision.
- Basic understanding of concrete characteristics and production.
- Must have demonstrated safe operation of Mixer Truck and Loader.
- Knowledge of proper material handling practices.
- Previous experience in ready-mix industry is preferred.
- Must have demonstrated the ability to be coachable by Plant Supervisor and Area Supervisor.
- Must be physically capable of performing strenuous manual labor including: bending, lifting, climbing at heights of 60-80 feet, walking on catwalks, stretching, driving/steering, sitting, twisting, vibration, and riding & walking on rough terrain. Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
- Must be English proficient, both oral and written.
Required Skills / Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum one-year batching experience in a ready-mix concrete environment.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of the automated batch plant operation. Experience with Command Alkon system experience preferred.
- Must have (or must be able to obtain as soon as possible) ACI Level I Field Testing Technician and Florida DOT Batch Certification.
- Must have basic math skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal & written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient working knowledge of Computer and Microsoft Office products.
