Recreation Therapist

We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic individual to fill the role of Recreation Therapist. The Recreation Therapist is responsible for overseeing all activities related to our recreation department, which provides services to adult and adolescent inpatient and Transitional Living patients. This individual should have a passion for promoting well-being and therapeutic activity engagement. There is opportunity to mentor entry-level staff through the oversight of recreation assistants and lifeguards. There is also an opportunity to organize and implement fun and creative patient activities that support their health. This individual should be safety-conscious, while assessing the needs of our patient population.

Job Responsibilities of the Recreation Therapist include:

• Encourage patients to acquire new leisure skills through individual and group contact
• Plan, organize and direct therapeutic patient activities in response to their individual needs
• Participate in clinical team rounds, as needed, to gain relevant patient information to support patient’s therapeutic needs
• Oversee two full-time and two per-diem recreation assistants, including interviewing, onboarding and scheduling of staff.
• Work closely with all inpatient and TLP staff in coordinating schedule of gym and pool access as well as recreation therapy groups
• Monitor gym and pool for safety and cleanliness, including scheduling of equipment maintenance.

Qualifications:

Education

Undergraduate or graduate degree in recreational therapy or related field

Professional Certification

Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or eligible to sit for exam

Specialized knowledge

Experience working in a hospital setting preferred
