Refining Area Inspector
Job Summary:
The Marathon Los Angeles Refinery has an opening for an Area Inspector who will be the primary contact for support associated with the fixed equipment integrity related issues pressure vessels, piping circuits, etc.). The Area Inspector is responsible for ensuring fixed equipment is in compliance with state regulations, refining standards and specifications. The Area Inspector also identifies, communicates, and supports operations and maintenance to mitigate mechanical integrity risks. The hours of the position are Monday- Thursday 10-hour days, support on-call and Turnarounds as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform and monitor condition of area equipment and recommends to Area Team the mitigations for equipment found to be in need of replacement or repair.
  • Perform jurisdictional inspections on equipment regulated by CAL DOSH, example Boilers.
  • Ensure equipment files are updated and works with RBI Analyst to evergreen risks minimizing risk levels per MPC standards.
  • Provide scope and supporting documentation (justification, timing, preparations, etc.), for fixed equipment mechanical integrity related work to Maintenance (Routine, Major Maintenance, Turnarounds, etc.).
  • Complete assigned MOC/INTELEX responsibilities as assigned by the Area Team Leader and others.
  • Drive documentation of as found / as left conditions of the fixed equipment to aid in risk-based work scopes.
  • Work with engineering and Area Teams to identify and support project development to improve reliability of fixed equipment.
  • Assist team in solving problems through life cycle cost analysis, root cause analysis, HAZOPs, equipment history research, risk-based work selection, etc.
  • Train in the required areas of responsibility as identified by the Inspection Supervisor.
  • Program Manager for specialty projects/programs supporting LAR mechanical integrity.
Education, Experience and Skills:
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience with inspecting fixed equipment in a refinery, petrochemical or other related industries.
  • Must have Current - API 510 Fixed Equipment Inspection OR 570 Piping Inspection Certification.
  • Must have or ability to obtain State of California Certificate of Competency.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Familiar with Risk Based Inspection strategy based on API-580 and 581.
  • Must be comfortable with leading and facilitating meetings.
  • Must be able to coordinate and communicate across multiple levels of leadership with various organizations - operations, maintenance, engineering.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.
  • Travel Requirement is 5% or less.
  • The hours of the position are Monday- Thursday 10-hour days, support on-call and Turnarounds as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience maintaining fixed equipment to RAGAGEP is preferred.
  • Experience as State Inspector of regulated equipment is preferred.
  • Clean and valid driver's license preferred.
