Position Summary

The Research Administrator, Post-Award is responsible for the effective management of post-award finances in the EECE department. This position will coordinate sponsored project post-award activities in addition to assisting the Senior Department Administrator with research administration oversight including personnel sourcing, budgeting, and operations management.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the oversight and day-to-day management of research administration.
  • Prepares and analyzes monthly financial reports on sponsored research accounts and distributes/discusses with Principal Investigators.
  • Works with PIs to provide fund management and make any necessary budgetary changes.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and monitors grant budgets and ensures appropriate and timely expenditures and reconciliation of funds.
  • Closes grant accounts; submits final progress report and final invention statement (if applicable) to the appropriate agency. Obtains signatures and forwards grant financial status reports.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, agency, the Uniform Guidance and University policies and procedures.
  • Creates, addresses and processes correspondence with granting agencies.
  • Corresponds with and requests and reviews documents from subcontractors including invoices, certifications, contract amendments, budget updates etc.
  • Assists PIs with internal and external requests for grant-related information.
  • Organizes and maintains grant files.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree preferred.
  • Experience in Workday or similar ERP system, including the Foundation Data Model for financial transactions and Human Capital Management.
  • Familiarity with Foreign National requirements and documentation.
  • Familiarity with the Research Management System (RMS), SUBS, and the Student Information System.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; a service-oriented communicator who is accessible and a team player ability to participate as a team member on various types of teams and projects to achieve the goals of the McKelvey School of Engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • A self-motivated individual driven by challenge with the ability to work independently with a high degree of reliability, accuracy and productivity; an analytical mind with a high degree of intelligence and the ability to “think on their feet”.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with varying degrees of pressure.
  • Knowledge of internal controls and various accounting system applications; ability to research and report upon accounting and other technical issues; ability to streamline/automate transaction processing and recording.
  • Experience working with personal computers; and proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and data base management software applications.
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
  • Multi-task capability.
  • Team player.
  • Problem solving: Ability to identify and bring resolution to workflow priority issues. Capacity to coordinate with Sponsored Projects Accounting, Research Office, Engineering Administration, and other areas in successful resolution of various post-award related issues.

Required Qualifications

Equivalent of Bachelor’s degree with six years of experience in accounting or related field including a minimum of two years of experience in grants administration or ten years of combined education and related experience.

Salary Range

$55,600.00 - $94,900.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
